Leader of Al Qaeda in Iraq is dead

BAGHDAD, Iraq – Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the most-wanted terrorist in Iraq with a $25 million bounty on his head, was killed when U.S. warplanes dropped 500-pound bombs on his isolated safehouse northeast of Baghdad, coalition officials said Thursday. His death was a long-sought victory in the war in Iraq.
At the White House, President Bush called the killing “a severe blow to al-Qaida and it is a significant victory in the war on terror.”
Muslims are calling al-Zarqawi a martyr. So what? He’s a dead fucking martyr who won’t kill any more Americans (unless they allow that sort of thing in Hell).
I’m not sure how, but I’m certain that the left will try to find a way to snatch complete defeat from the jaws of victory over this (yep, the Kool-aid drinking Koz kids are already at it). Mark in Mexico has more examples of the early Leftard attempts to downplay this monumental event.
Samizdata says she feels “a little ghoulish celebrating the death of anyone, however this is brilliant news.” Shit, I don’t feel even a little ghoulish about it. I feel nothing but unadulterated joy that this monster of pure evil is dead and burning in hell as we speak.

I followed your link to the “Koz kids” post. Did you read it? He says “the son of a bitch might be dead” and “Don’t get me wrong Zarqawi is a great catch.” His point seems to be that eliminating that one bastard won’t fix everything. Seems reasonable to me. Does not seem like he is “snatching complete defeat from the jaws of victory” to me, as you imply. Sounds like you are knee-jerking. Calm down.
Yeah, I read it Anon. If it were the only example immediately following this terrific news…then I would be guilty of “knee jerking”. But it’s not.

the only thing that i am worried about is that this will increase insurgent attacks against our soldiers. So in a way, this might do nothing whatsoever in regards to the war on terror, except for bringing us back a few steps. You kill one high profile terrorist and 5 more will be waiting to take his place.
Anonymous…the alternative to killing him was allowing him to live to saw more people’s heads off, kill our soldiers and innocent Iraq people. The choice to bomb was clear and correct.
I’m really glad they didn’t just “capture” him. Then we’d have to endure an endless trial, charges of U.S./Bush abuse blah blah blah. Now it’s over and done with and hopefully there will be more to follow.

Besides, it completely ignores the true reason that terrorists want to kill us: not because we attack them, but because we are not them. They want to kill us because their religion tells mandates they kill infidels (that would be you and me). Their goal is to make the entire Earth an Islamic state. And to do so, they either have to kill us or convert us. And I ain’t converting.

Amazes me that people have lost the main lesson here. HE WAS GIVEN UP BY HIS OWN PEOPLE. The U.S. is paying the 25 million to some lucky lottery winner sick of getting his shit bombed every time he pisses in the wrong direction.
The point is they are now getting sick of war, and have picked what side they want running shit. Don’t look now but it looks as if Bush knew what he was doing all along.
