Initiative 946 has been put into law in Colorado:

DENVER — Colorado lawmakers ended a five-day special session on illegal immigration with a resounding approval of several bills that Democrats call the toughest in the nation and Republicans say don’t go far enough.

The legislation sent late Monday to Republican Gov. Bill Owens would force a million people receiving state or federal aid in Colorado to verify their citizenship.

It would deny most non-emergency state benefits to illegal immigrants 18 years old and older – forcing people to prove legal residency when applying for benefits or renewing their eligibility. The state Senate passed it 22-13 and the House voted 48-15 in favor. Both chambers are controlled by Democrats.

Why shouldn’t all receipiants of welfare have to prove that they are here legally? Why hasn’t this always been the law? Everywhere, not just in Colorado.

The bill would apply to Medicare, Medicaid, unemployment insurance, energy assistance programs and aging and adult services. Owens has said an estimated 50,000 illegal immigrants could be thrown out of those programs.

Good. Now maybe they’ll go home (wishful thinking) and work on coming back legally.

Good for you Colorado. I hope my state and all other states follow suite. Only 50K will be affected in Colorado. Just imagine of how many it would affect in Texas (millions).

  1. With all that is politically liberal about the State of Colorado, they just won my heart!

  2. here in new mexico we give these parasites all the benefits without question…………when i lost work due to cancer…i, as a white male veteran was refused food assistance because i wasnt mexican ……you wont find american citizens in our er’s either.we should be shooting illegals instead of what we have now.

  3. Then we could use the money saved to build a 20 ft wall along the border. Dig a trench 20ft deep and fill it with concrete. I know Bush recently passed a $70 Billion tax cut, so we could easily afford to build a concrete wall to keep them out.

  4. I understand the debate was heated. The result is a good start, and an example for all other states(except probably Massachussetts).

The best focus is to fine employers, heavily. With jobs drying up and no welfare privileges, hopefully an exodus back to the land whose flag they wave at demonstrations will follow(natural deportation).
