Stuff I Meant to Write About But Didn’t

I have about 30-some-odd posts saved in my Draft que — stories that I wanted to write about, so I created a draft, but then never got around to them.

So, in an effort to clean out my Draft que, these are some of the stories from this year that I started to write about, but never finished:

  • Ground Zero Construction Begins — April 27 — I appreciate that the Freedom Tower will be the tallest building in the United States
  • Ginnsburg Falls Asleep on the Bench — March 2 — The funniest part? That neither Justice Souter or Justice Alito — who sit on either side of her — bothered to nudge her or wake her.
  • Katrina: Exposing the Myths — December 12, 2005 — Four months after Hurricane Katrina, analyses of data suggest that some widely reported assumptions about the storm’s victims were incorrect.
  • Brittany Marlowe Holberg — Simply the most vile and evil person still sitting on Texas Death Row: On 11/13/1996, Holberg robbed and murdered an 80-year old man in his home. The victim was struck with a hammer and stabbed nearly 60 times. The weapons used were: a paring knife, a butcher knife, a grapefruit knife, and a fork. A lamp pole had been shoved more than 5 inches down the victim’s throat.
  • Keni Thomas: Last Band of Brothers — One of my favorite new songs by one of my favorite new musicians: Keni is a former Army Ranger and member of the elite Task Force Ranger assault unit. He fought in the Somalia battle recounted in the book and motion picture “Black Hawk Down.” He was awarded the Bronze Star for Valor and the Combat Infantryman’s Badge.

I’ve deleted all the others.

  1. Wow! The Freedom Tower, and the Reflecting Absence Memorial is very passionate. What an incredible design.

(now, back to building my 86,000 sq.ft. elementary school…)

  2. If this thread counts as a grab bag…

Can I ask when it might fairly decided that the invasion of Iraq was a bad choice? I understand we all (outside of the Oval Office) knew that the first several years might be challenging. But as we approach the fourth anniversary (and the selection of future American leaders) it would be useful if we can say if the situation in Iraq is not better by January, 20xx it can be fairly said that supporters of that invasion perhaps don’t have the wisdom to be President.

Several months ago you were touting the demonstrations in Lebanon as a positive outcome from the invasion of Iraq yet now you believe that the government is in league with Hezbollah to the extent that you are unconcerned in the deaths of Lebanese civilians. In my mind these are incompatible; either the invasion of Iraq did not significantly impact the Lebanese political situation or else the Lebanese governmentamd people are being indiscrimately attacked for the sins of Hezbollah.

Perhaps if we set a date we can avoid this problem of moving goalposts for the next 10 or 15 years.
