On Wednesday, a San Antonio man, Mauriceo Brown, 31, was executed for the 1996 shooting death of a 25-year-old Michael LaHood Jr., during a botched robbery. Lahood was shot in the face while standing in his own driveway in San Antonio.
Lahood was standing near his vehicle when he was approached by Brown. Brown pulled a pistole and demanded Lahood’s money and car keys. When Lahood refused to comply, Brown shot him once in the face. Brown was a known member of the Crips street gang at the time of his killing.
Brown states that he did not intentionally pull the trigger but that the gun went off by itself, shooting and killing LaHood. A decade after the crime, he denied he was the gunman and claimed he only confessed because of threats to his family.
On his death bed, Brown showed no remorse…apologizing to the family that he was “sorry that they lost their brother this way”, but never apologizing for nor taking responsiblity for shooting Lahood.
Brown’s execution was the first of two back-to-back executions in Texas this week.
Robert Anderson, 40, faces execution today for the 1993 slaying of a 5-year-old Amarillo girl who was abducted, sexually assaulted, beaten, choked and strangled before her body was stuffed into a cooler and thrown into a garbage container.

You’ve gotta love the mentality over in the prisontalk forums:
Moron: “Am I just imagening it or is Texas killing with some speed this month? RIP Mr Brown ”
kw: Uh, yah. Shame on Texas for upholding the death penalty…
Moron: “It makes me sick to read that Mauriceo has been executed. I wonder when this killing in the name of law and justice will ever stop. I really wish the people over there have a good explaination for Mauriceo’s little son in case he might ever ask why he was not allowed to have a father. My thoughts are with Mauriceo’s family, loved ones and friends. Rest in peace at a better place, Mauriceo.”
kw: I have an explanation… how about the truth? ‘Your dad was a notorious thug in a gang, on drugs, on a robbing and killing spree. He decided to murder a young law-student. You were allowed to have a father… he just just chose not to let you.’.
Bonus Moron: “My anger to Texas just keeps growing each day!
But… have a wonderful journey to home, Mauriceo… My utmost sympathy goes to Mauriceo’s family and all loved ones. I wish you can find even a little bit of strength somehow……. Keep fighting!
“I cherish all you gave me everyday, ’cause you are mine, Forever love Watching over me from up above…”
In memoriam of my husband Sean O’Brien
April 5th 1975 – July 11th 2006
Love will live on and never leave.”
kw: This one speaks for itself. But she forgot to add the most beautiful day of her life… her wedding date. Let’s recap: ‘In memoriam of my husband July 7th – July 11th 2006′.
(insert eye-rolling here)
Please stop all that hating..these people just have loved ones down there, and you never choose what your husband/brother/father will do..not to mention all the innocents locked up. You should really spend your time on something else.
Mauriceo was my special friend. I reached out to him after signing a petition to atleast give him a little more time to prove his innocence theough D & A testing which he was denied. Mauriceo was a beautiful soul. I miss him so much. The beautiful letters I recieved will always be cherished. And just when I thought he’d had so much on his mind in his last days on this earth, I recieved a beautiful letter from him two days after his execution. My heart goes out to everyone who actually gives a damn for a human life! mauriceo was a good spirit and will truly be missed. You had to know him to know him truly! I miss you Mauriceo! keep smiling
!
Good riddence
You’re right April, our strength is LOVE and not hate, that’s why nobody will ever defeat us….RIP Mauriceo
An excution carried out is pretty much a defeat. lol!
to anonymous, who is too scared to leave thier real name. You may think you have the last word, but you don’t An execution is not a defeat. It defeats the purpose. Mauriceo is in a better plae right now and he doesn’t have to put up with idoits like yourself. So there you ahve hit! He has defeated us all! Especally you!
Your goal was to prevent and/or delay the murderer’s execution. He was executed. Therefore, you were defeated. See how simple logic works?
Nah, I’m sure even that is still too complex for you and your ilk to comprehend. And, if by a better place you mean hell, yes, Brown is in a “better place.”
Now, I do have the last word. lol!
People forget that death row is not meant for rehabilataion of inmates. It is a one way ticket. It’s unfortunate that it takes a death sentance and 9 or 10 years of appeals to make a person change into a “better man or woman” but bad choices have bad consequences and those consequences can be unfair and out of your control. None the less I pray for this man and those his life his toched.
True, DR is not meant for rehabilitation.
It’s no walk in the park either.Urgh, thinking about it gives me chills. I like to be able to wake up, go get a coffee, walk the dog, etc. Liberty!
I live in a place where, apparently, people consider prisons here to be country clubs and I never would wanna lose my freedoms, hence why I don’t kill nor mess w/the law . Freedom is too important for me! Even if the prisons are considered Club Feds, I don’t care I ain’t wanna go(well, self-defence is one thing, I dunno what I would do if someone like these DR caracters came and invaded my home to harm me. I would call the 911 on my cell and tell them to hurry before I harm the perp).
Why can’t these jackasses think about it before killing someone and ending up on the gurney? (except the innocents, obviously, maybe 2% of the DR condemned?) Don’t they have a brain?
Mauriceo was my penfriend. He was the best friend I’ve ever had in my life. I miss him too much! Some people will never forget him. He brought a lot of joy and fun in my life. His letters lifted me up sometimes when I felt bad. It seems a long time since he’s execution, but for me it seems like yesterday. It hurts. I miss his letters and words.
He said everytime that I’m his ” special friend from Switzerland” and he was proud that our friendship growed up. But I have to tell you now, that I was proud to know him. That this life gave me the chance to meet such a wonderful person like him!
Mauriceo, thanks for all.
With love
San
Wow, we are so fucking unimpressed. Brown was a cold blooded murderer. What kind of sicko would refer to this piece of shit as a wonderful prerson? Oh, yeah, you. Seek psychiatric help.
I feel so sorry for the LaHood’s and the lost of their son. I feel great pain as well for my soul mate Mauriceo. Two lives are gone before they even began. He was a wonderful person, who was friends with the wrong people. Some people have made comments about how they applaud Texas and their actions but what does it solve. The evidence was not presented for the truth to be told. You would think one would want to know the truth before and innocent man was killed. We all have our faults and no one in this world is perfect, if that was the case we would be GOD. I pray for the very ones who have made comments of joy about the death of Shawn, Mauriceo. I pray you never have to go through the pain of having to stand in my shoes and Shawn’s family. For you must be perfect and you must have never made a mistake in your life to have the boldness to speak such harass words about another life. The only fact you have is that he was in the car. The only fact you have is that the witness did not ID him but another man, Dwayne Dillard. The only fact you have is that Dillard is in jail for another murder that took place 2 weeks before Mr. LaHood’s, a pattern of killing for him. The only fact you have is Mr. Dillard although ID by the witness was never charged in this murder at all. The media will do anything to paint a story of a monster but take time to read the facts and gain knowledge on the truth before you cast judgment.
Mrs. Nora and Ms. Luckey both are victims. One a victims for losing a son so suddenly and the other for having her son killed by Texas with out the facts being told.
Question from JERRY: Mr. Sergi, I read the article on this case and it doesn’t say if Mary Patrick testified at the trial. Did she name the shooter?
David Sergi: She did, and she identified Dwayne Dillard. What I am gathering out of all this, was that this was precipitated by Mary Patrick running down the driveway, screaming expletives and using the n-word, and screaming racial epithets, and we think Dillard just snapped. It’s one of those things where, you know, some badly chosen words resulted in an innocent guy dying.
God rest there souls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Shawn I love you with all my heart , not a day goes by that I don’t think about you, I hope you save a place for me.
wow i jus found this shit
mauriceo was my nigga
dun say shit bout my nigga
we still keepin it locked down here m
rest in peace
You’re not quoting the facts. You’re quoting a defense atty advocating on behalf of his client. There was overwhelming evidence of Brown’s guilt. He was not innocent.
