DALLAS — Medical care received by illegal immigrants at Parkland Memorial Hospital cost more than $22.4 million this fiscal year, officials said.

That’s at a single hospital in Dallas. $22.4 million dollars.

And who do you think paid that cost? That’s right — legal citizens of this country. When I look at my medical bills, insurance premiums, and co-pays it’s not too hard to figure where that cost is getting spread.

When they’re not busy murdering our citizens, selling drugs to our children, or running prostitution rings, they’re running up the cost of medical care in our country.

Which is why immigration reform (to include securing our borders) is the number one issue for me in the upcoming elections.

  1. you echo my concern about this. When they threaten with their ridiculous boycotts, they should boytcott going to our hospitals, using our foodbanks and homeless shelters. What makes me even more mad is that many of these morons jump across the border knowing full well the benefits and they take advantage of it. Pregnant women cross the border in 115 degree heat, knowing that they will go into labor, only so that they can have their illegitimate kid in the US. Im surprised that we still can even afford healthcare.

  2. The only way to stop it is to find the companies that hire them and fine the companies $50,000 for each illegal worker. Using that money and the $70 Billion tax cut that Bush just passed and build a damn wall 20 ft high and 20 ft into the ground. Unfortunately, fighting the war on terror this might become necessary in order to keep our country safe.

  3. Build a wall. None of these so called immigration plans address the fact that we are importing unskilled low pay labor for big business and making the tax payer subsidize their housing, education, and healthcare. Cities encourage illegal immigration by giving them benefits that they do not deserve and again making the tax payers cough up the money for it.

  4. Cities encourage illegal immigration by giving them benefits that they do not deserve and again making the tax payers cough up the money for it.

Because we learned long ago about the unintended consequences of denying people education and healthcare. Similarly, the result of turning cops into INS officers is the establishment of a class of people who are preyed on by criminals because they cannot turn to the legal system for help.

As you mention, the reason we have illegal immigration is the benefits that go to big business and the lack of document enforcement from politicians who receive their political donations.
Dealing with the problem at this point is the only humane method I am aware of.

  5. A lot of people are wired to get away with what they can get away with if there is a payoff for them. For the Mexicans, they know they will live better in the U.S. and most of them expect the American citizen taxpayer to foot the bill because they already do! Soon, they believe it’s an entitlement and it’s their right to steal my identity and yours. For big business, they figure out how to work the system and make the most money by lowering wages for legal workers and still be legal by hiring temporary agencies to get their cheap help, absolving themselves from legal responsibility and lower wages for working citizens. Small businesses do the same thing except they can’t afford the fancy lawyers to defend them so they take more chances and hire anyone who shows them papers without checking them out. Then there are ordinary citizens Joe and Jean who hire the cheap Mexican nanny and don’t pay her SS, withhold her wages or report to the IRS. Finally, there is the government who has been doing nothing for years and getting away with it.

And, then there’s people like me who have had enough and want it stopped. We don’t give a damn about the sob stories anymore because what’s good for the goose sure ain’t good for the gander anymore. We work, pay our taxes and our medical bills, buy our own school supplies, pay for school lunches, and mow our own friggin lawn PLUS we also pay for the illegal immigrants to get the same thing for free, courtesy of the above. And, there are millions of me. We know who is to blame and we want it stopped.

Speaking of sob stories, I wonder how people would feel if the woman who is taking up sanctuary in the church in Chicago was a Muslim man taking up sanctuary in a Mosque.

  6. Because we learned long ago about the unintended consequences of denying people education and healthcare.

Yeah, they go home to their own country.

Similarly, the result of turning cops into INS officers is the establishment of a class of people who are preyed on by criminals because they cannot turn to the legal system for help.

And the result of not deporting people for breaking our immigration laws is a huge alien criminal class among the numerous other problems. 15% of those incarcerated for violent felonies in California prisons are Mexican nationals. Last year, 95% of the murder warrants in LA county were for Mexican nationals. These crime stats do not include those illegal aliens in prison who have escaped detection and the thousands of violent felons in the jail system.

  7. Yeah, they go home to their own country.

Sure they do- because the medical care in Honduras is world renown!

No, what happens is that they suffer chronic illnesses and create a store of potential disease that can affect the wider population. Their children- often American citizens- are incapable of holding anything but menial jobs when they grow up making your predictions of crime a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Your vindictive solutions to the problems associated with illegal immigration are worse than the problem itself. Just like the war on drugs the only way to stop this ‘trade’ is to stem the demand. Because if the demand for undocumented labor (or heroin) exists, it will be filled.

  8. One thing we could always do is send them to a country other than their own. That would be quite funny. Send a Mexican to Costa Rica.

  9. Prior to the infamous ‘boycott’, (the owner of) the company I work for sent out a memo saying (roughly), if you want to take off then he supports your beliefs, you could take off without being reprimanded, blah, blah, blah…

So, I called my boss and said it was my belief that I should take the day off. He told me I couldn’t.

    Wha????

In turn, I made him treat me to lunch at Burger King that day.

Close the damn borders. Want to become a legal citizen? Go to Legal Citizen University in Mexico.

  10. Yeah, they go home to their own country.

Sure they do- because the medical care in Honduras is world renown!

I got into an argument with a Mexican professor of engineering who insisted healthcare is free in Mexico. I checked into it and they do have some sort of free health care. Whether it reaches everyone, I doubt it. I do know of doctors and nurses that fly to baja monthly and set up a free clinic. Charity is one thing, but it is not our job to provide free healthcare for the entire world and allow healthcare for our own people to diminish. We’ve had 25 hospitals close in So. Calif recently. They can not longer afford to offer free healthcare to Mexico. Specialists will not take on call shifts in hospitals because they get stuck with too many nonpaying patients. Therefore, even if you are injured, if you need a specialist orthopedic surgeon, you may be shit out of luck. Get in a car wreck, well the ER maybe too full to treat you or the nearest one has closed b/c they can’t afford to treat Mexico for free. Private citizens can’t afford insurance premiums because they keep increasing it to cover the costs of treating the citizens of Mexico for free.

No, what happens is that they suffer chronic illnesses and create a store of potential disease that can affect the wider population.

My ancestors had to submit to a medical examination. If they were unhealthy, they didn’t get in. People with chronic illnesses should not be admitted into this country. That is the best way of protecting the “wider population” as if you actually gave a shit.

Their children- often American citizens- are incapable of holding anything but menial jobs when they grow up making your predictions of crime a self-fulfilling prophecy.

You make no sense. The children of the chronically ill illegal immigrant are incapable of holding anything but menial jobs therefore they have the right to commit crimes? They could return to Mexico where the University of Mexico is free, get an education or a skill and live in Mexico where the cost of living is cheaper. And I made no predictions of crime – I stated what is currently the crime rate of Mexican nationals.

Your vindictive solutions to the problems associated with illegal immigration are worse than the problem itself. Just like the war on drugs the only way to stop this ‘trade’ is to stem the demand. Because if the demand for undocumented labor (or heroin) exists, it will be filled.

No, your idiot liberal solutions are what has created this crisis. You don’t give a shit about American citizens or legal aliens that live here. You stem the demand by closing the border.

  11. No, your idiot liberal solutions are what has created this crisis. You don’t give a shit about American citizens or legal aliens that live here. You stem the demand by closing the border

Pardon my language, but shove it up your ass. Don’t ever presume to think you know what I ‘give a shit’ about. Sorry, tell me how simply enforcing the law is a ‘liberal’ solutions. Sadly, it appears it is.

  12. Vote Sharon Keller for Presiding judge of Texas Court of Criminal Appeals:

  13. No one has to presume anything; you are as transparent as they get. Enforcing the law is deporting people who are here illegally. Enforcing the law is not giving illegal immigrants subsidized housing. Enforcing the law is not giving illegal immigrants free non-emergency health care. Enforcing the law is not giving illegal immigrants education grants. You are against the enforcing of these laws. Now shove it up your own ass.

  14. It’s repeatedly evident on this website that while liberals govern based on the way the world is, conservatives govern based on the way that they wish it was.

  15. Enforcing the law is deporting people who are here illegally.
Of course, I agree with this.

Enforcing the law is not giving illegal immigrants subsidized housing. Enforcing the law is not giving illegal immigrants free non-emergency health care. Enforcing the law is not giving illegal immigrants education grants.
Where are these laws? Federal? State? I can’t give an illegal immigrant an education grant? I call b.s.

But, of course- if it is a law- enforce it! Though your idea of not providing access to health care is cutting off your nose to spite your face.

  16. It’s repeatedly evident on this website that while liberals govern based on the way the world is, conservatives govern based on the way that they wish it was.

I halfway-agree with you, Preston. Buy my true belief is that both parties attempt to govern based on the way they wish the world was, rather than how it actually is.

And I prefer this vision of leadership. I think things could be a helluva lot better in this country, and I want my leadership to be based on how we wish things to be…otherwise, how will we ever get there?

Where our opinions diverge is on what we “wish the world was” (liberal’s wish for how things should be=a socialist utopia)

  17. In this country in some 9 states illegal immigrants who have lived in this country for 2 years can get in-state tuition at any college, while those citizens who live in another state cannot. Take for example, Kansas City. I could literally live in Kansas City, Missouri, cross the street to Kansas City, Kansas and be denied in-state tuition to the University of Kansas medical center campus 3 blocks away, while my next door neighbor illegal immigrant from Mexico could get the instate tuition I was denied. (KCK and KCMo are simply separated by streets). This, byt he way, is being challenged in court, but the point is it is not fair to the legal citizens of this country who pay the taxes to support the schools.

It’s also not fair to provide non-emergency health care to illegal immigrants and DENY it to legal citizens and that happens all across the country every day, and who pays, the legal citizens, you and me. You may say they’re coming here with communicable diseases (and they are) but that’s no excuse. Lots of people have communicable diseases and they still aren’t given free health care.

And, finally, everybody forgets in this debate that we are not just talking about Mexicans here. We are talking about people from every country in the world, many of which are sworn enemies of the United States. We need to enforce our current laws and our borders now and quit the PC crap and the oh poor baby crap and get it done.

  18. Where our opinions diverge is on what we “wish the world was” (liberal’s wish for how things should be=a socialist utopia)

Of course that’s ridiculous- I’m probably more of a capitalist than you are. However, I recognize that a capitalist economy requires government to protect investors and consumers in the long term.

Perhaps, I should be clear on what I was referring to. Last night, for instance, there was a program on ABC about AIDS. It’s widely acknowledged that infected needles are causing a huge proportion of the AIDS cases in this country and that needle exchange programs reduce this risk. Republicans don’t want to govern based on this reality- they want to pretend that drug addicts don’t exist and will go away. The result has been the needless deaths of thousands of people and the huge burden of these sick people in our healthcare systems.

Honestly- doesn’t this type of governance make you want to scream? Is the principle of denying the existance of drug use worth the loss of life? Does anyone really think that some kid will try heroin just for the free needles?

The principle is the same for illegal immigration. I want to reduce illegal immigration as much as you do. I’m outraged that George Bush has enforced immigration laws even less than Bill Clinton’s administration did. However, I would have policies that recognize they exist: health care, education, and police protection independent of citizenship. Otherwise, we end up with sick, stupid criminals in our midst. Not the kind of neighbors that any of us want.

  19. sure….. healthcare in mexico might be free. hell, even some americans go to mexico for surgery. but they usually dont come back, since many of the clinics there are rundown, rat infested outhouses. No sanitation at all. Thats why they come here for our healthcare.

  20. Does a country have a right to decide who & who does not come in? Seems like most countries – with the exception of U.S. – do think they have the right. Even poor, downtrodden Mexico doesn’t go for unfettered illegal immigration. They position their Military on their southern boarder to intercept those moving north from S. & Central America for a better life.

If we were smart, we’d only allow immigration of the smartest, most creative, most industrist of the world. But … we’re not that forward looking.

Cheap, illegal labor has a negative impact on the wages of lower income Americans. To say the illegals do the work Americans don’t want to do is only partially true. Americans don’t won’t the job a wage that is too low. McCain got hooted down when he made this argument at a labor convention (imagine that). He said to the audience that they wouldn’t pick lettuce even if it paid $50 an hour. Men shouted out, Where do we sign up!

The illegal immigration invasion from south of the boarder consists almost completely of the poor & illiterates. When they come here they use our services, health, schools, ect and do not pay income tax, state or federal as they’re average incomes are too low. California pays 10 billion a year for services to illegals.

Answer me this riddle: Why is Mexico a poor nation? Has incredible natural resources – minerals, oil, beaches – has a large population of willing workers; lies to the south of the largest economy & importer the world has ever known. Why is Mexico still corrupt & poor?

  21. we should kill them all!!!
