Longhorn players doubtful to play against OSU

On Saturday night, sometime around 3:00 a.m., Texas cornerback Tarell Brown and liknebacker Tyrell Gatewood were arrested on misdemeanor drug and weapon charges while driving around with former UT linebacker Aaron Harris.

The three men were driving in Gatewood’s car — which was being driven by Harris. Cops pulled them over after observing them weaving in and out of traffic at 90 mph. When they were pulled over, cops found a blunt in the car (which Harris said was his). Brown — the starting cornerback for UT who was expected to line up across from Ted Ginn Jr. on Saturday in the battle between #1 ranked Ohio State and #2 ranked Texas — had a loaded 9mm pistol in his lap and was passed out in the backseat. The gun, which was legally purchased, belongs to Gatewood.

The attorney for Brown and Gatewood said Gatewood legally purchased the gun earlier this year and that neither of them smoked the marijuana found in the car.

The gun charge carries a maximum penalty of one year in jail and a $4,000 fine. The drug charge carries a maximum of 180 days in jail and a $2,000 fine.

At this time, no charges have been filed against either Brown or Gatewood, and in most likelyhood, no charges will be filed against either of these players. Despite that, I think that Coach Mack Brown should still suspend both players for at least one game. If for nothing else than being complete idiots.

During the off-season, Coach Brown kicked RB Ramonce Taylor off the team for drug-related charges. Brown and Gatewood should have known better than to be speeding around in a car with a guy who was smoking blunts, and with a loaded gun.

As Jim Rome says, “Nothing good happens after 2:00 a.m.”

Note to ex-Longhorn linebacker, Aaron Harris: please do not hang around with any more current players.
