I finally got around to watching the pilot episode of Heroes on NBC last night, and I’m hooked. It’s the best pilot for a new show I’ve seen since Showtime’s Dead Like Me.

Here’s how SeenOn! describes the show:

A group of people ranging from a Japanese salaryman to a divorced mother/webcam stripper discovers that they are developing super powers. Their reactions range from the frustrated (a fast-healing cheerleader tries to kill herself seven times with no lasting effect other than messing up her uniform) to the frightened (a painter who develops precognitive talents tries to destroy his paintings and blames his drug habit). And tracking every odd event surrounding them is the son of a murdered geneticist trying to find the links amongst them all and a few other people with their own agendas.

While KevinOQ at Slacker’s Anonymous thinks it feels “very Lost meets X Files meets X Men, yet surprisingly doesn’t feel sci-fi.

I’d say it’s more Unbreakable than X-Men though.

FishKiller hopes that “people besides comic book readers and sci-fi junkies will give it a chance.” I’m neither a sci-fi fan or a comic book reader…and I’m giving it more than just a chance. This show is going to be very entertaining.
_______________

I wasn’t surprised by the ending of the pilot because I had already read several spoiler sites…but I got goose bumps nonetheless when Peter Petrelli (played by Milo Ventimiglia) saw the painting of his own dreams of ‘flying’ and then the painting of New York City under attack while the painter, Isaac Mendez (played by Santiago Cabrera) lies nearby whispering “We have to stop it.”

There are some good characters and actors on this show, but so far I like Hiro Nakasumra the best. Masi Oka plays Hiro, a Tokyo nonconformist computer/anime enthusiast who “develops a way to pierce the space-time continuum and move back in time through sheer will power.”

Oka doesn’t just play a geek on TV — he is a geek. Oka graduated from Brown University with degrees in mathematics and computer science and a theatre arts minor.

One Response to “Heroes on NBC”

Heroes on NBC has to be the break out hit of the season. The Pilot episode was a hit in the ratings and the online Buzz is only growing louder each day. NBC finally has it’s Lost.
