Phil Brennan at NewsMax has written an analysis of 10 Reasons to Vote for the GOP. He believes that most people vote according to what’s best for their pocketbooks. Most of his reasons adhere to this belief:

  1. The economy is kicking butt.
  2. Unemployment is almost nil for a major economy, and is verging on full employment.
  3. The Dow is hitting record highs.
  4. Wages have risen dramatically. According to the Washington Post, demand for labor helped drive workers’ average hourly wages, not including those of most managers, up to $16.84 last month — a 4 percent increase from September 2005, the fastest wage growth in more than five years.
  5. Gas prices have plunged.
  6. Since 9/11, no terrorist attacks have occurred on U.S. soil.
  7. Productivity is surging and has grown by a strong 2.5 percent over the past four quarters, well ahead of the average productivity growth in the last 30 years.
  8. The Prescription Drug Program is working.
  9. Bush has kept his promise of naming conservative judges.
  10. The deficit has been cut in half three years ahead of the president’s 2009 goal.

Make sure to read the entire thing (with explanations for each reason).
Brennan concludes the following:

The choice voters will make is whether they want higher taxes and less security by surrendering the tools used to combat terrorism or lower taxes and the continued use of tools like the Patriot Act, terrorist surveillance, terrorist interrogations and missile defense.

Me? I’m for lower taxes and increased security through the programs (which are legal and Constitutional, despite what Liberals keep screaming to the contrary) liste above.

Of the above, #1, #2, #6, and #9 are the primary reaons why I voted GOP.

No terrorist attacks since 9/11? Really?

Yeah, about that number 6- I guess we’re not supposed to talk about this anymore.

Dan — not on US soil there haven’t been.

Preston — those 2001 anthrax deaths may nor may not be terrorist related. Certainly no terrorist group has claimed responsibility for them (nor has any other group). This incident could just as likely be the work of white anarchists from Seattle who were hoping to capitalize on the fear immediatly following the terrorist attacks on 9/11/

I don’t know where to begin… It’s only terrorism if it’s done by Arabs? Oklahoma City might quibble with that definition.

We are at war (despite what Ms. Pelosi believes to the contrary) with Muslim Islamofascist terrorists. The same folks who flew our planes into two of our buildings.

Since 9/11 we have not had any attacks on US soil by the terrorists with whom we are at war. Despite Democrats’ efforts to hinder our ability to protect ourselves.

Our enemy still wants to attack us very badly on our own soil again. As evidenced by a foiled plot to blow up 10 more of our airliners earlier this year. Thanks to President Bush and his policies (including taking the war to them on their turf, rather than fighting it here on our’s), they have been 100% unsuccesful.
_________

OK City bombings were pre-9/11 if I remember correctly.

Thanks to President Bush and his policies (including taking the war to them on their turg, rather than fighting it here on our’s),

Do you honestly believe that the war in Iraq is making us safer?

Yes, Preston. I do believe that.

Do you honestly believe that after terrorists bombed the World Trade Centers that they were done attacking us?

I don’t believe that for a moment. But I do believe that our taking the war to them has prevented them from being able to attack us here again.

Personally, I consider the anthrax attacks terrorism, as did everyone in the United States at the time, but I guess right-wing koolaid drinkers have forgotten them.

The list is seemingly amorphic and impervious to plagiarism. Observe how other GOP weblogs are fast in picking Paul’s points and calling them their own: Danger Management states, “The economy is kicking butt.” Urban Grounds says, “The economy is kicking butt.” Conservative Blog Therapy has it that, “The economy is kicking butt.” The Talk Show American gets a little more verbose when adding, “The economy is kicking butt.” In North Dakota, the GOP’s situation looks even more dire. It’s there where you will

Do you honestly believe that after terrorists bombed the World Trade Centers that they were done attacking us?
I’ve never said anything like that. In fact I’ve said exactly the opposite.

Frankly, the statement leaves me a little depressed about this conversation going anywhere: either you have not read a thing that has been written here as an argument against the war in Iraq or you are willing to misrepresent it to score a political point.

I don’t believe that for a moment. But I do believe that our taking the war to them has prevented them from being able to attack us here again.
Well, that wasn’t a strategy that worked for England or Spain so why should it work for us?

1. Yeah, the economy is kicking a lot of peoples asses.

2. Yeah, you’d be amazed how many part time burger flipping jobs contribute to this one.

3. Yeah, if I was an investor, I’d be putting a lot of money into companies that cut their expenses through dometic jobs lay-offs, outsourcing jobs overseas, and dropping health care benefits, along with all of the other cost utting measures they take of dubious ethics in order to increase their profits.

4. Meantime, even for those few who enjoy the benefits of that, higher insurance, higher property taxes, less money for first responders and education, higher prices, etc.

5. Let’s see where gas prices plunge to after the election.

6. Granted

7. Tell that to all the Ford workers. Particularly those that made the Taurus.

8. Yeah, it does, for those old people that have somebody that can walk them through the labrynthe.

9. Fifty- fifty. A good thing in some cases, not so good in others.

10. It should never have gotten that bad to begin with, and it’s still not good.

What about those anthrax attacks?

Patrick-
I’ll throw my two cents in with your rebuttal of these points. I find them so intentionally propagandistic I can’t believe anyone would repeat them and so much so that the prospect of a point by point response simply tires me out.

Can I just say that each time the guy is saying THE ECONOMY IS AWESOME- he is comparing it to 2 or 3 years ago which is a questionable reference point. (Except in the case of gas prices- there he just compares it to whenever they were higher- HA. What a clown.)

Preston:

Nah, he’s not a clown, he just honestly believes the Republican talking points, and his dander is up over the election. He’s afraid they’re going to lose. Fear will do that to people.

When you go on web-sites and see a moderate Democrat like Harold Ford called a “Far Leftist”, that tells you all you need to know. They know better than that, see, but they are running with the talking points without considering the sources.

You don’t really need to engage in a point by point rebuttal. Most of the time, they are preaching to the choir. They are only trying to convince one group of people to do one thing-they are afraid their own people are so disgusted and turned off they won’t vote, and they are desperately trying to convince them they should suck it up, forget all the lies and betrayals, and hold their noses and vote for people that won’t ever learn their lessons. If Republicans win this year, they will insist it’s a mandate for more of the same. You know that, and I know it. Frankly, I would never vote for a Democrat that acted badly, because I know I am not giving him or the party any incentive to act any differently. But hey, that’s just me.

Those talking points? The next time you see somebody say the economy is kicking butt, just tell them, “yeah, it sure as hell is kicking mine”. Or, if more appropriate, “yeah, I know quite a few people whose asses are getting kicked.”

Well, Patrick, we’re in basic agreement except that I would call someone has uncritically parrotted demonstrably false talking points a clown.

I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree. :)

Yeah, I’m afraid I’m going to pull my vote for the Democratic comptroller in my state because of some stupid small time corruption. The sad thing is that I think he’s a basically honest guy but if you don’t slap the hand in the cookie jar you can expect more of the same. Hopefully Americans will agree with that principle next week.

Got something you want to say?
