What’s the Statute of Limitations on treason?
In his new book, The Crusader: Ronald Reagan and the Fall of Communism, author Paul Kengor includes a potentially shattering document from the Soviet archives.
From Bryan Preston at Hot Air:
That document is a memo regarding an offer made by Sen. Ted Kennedy of Massachusetts via former Senator John Tunney, both Democrats, to the General Secretary of the Communist Party, USSR, Yuri Andropov, in 1983. The offer was to help the Soviet leadership, military and civilian, conduct a PR campaign in the United States as President Ronald Reagan sought re-election. The goal of the PR campaign would be to cast President Reagan as a warmonger, the Soviets as willing to peacefully co-exist, and thereby turn the electorate away from Reagan. It was a plan to enlist Soviet help, and use the American press, in unseating an American president.
Think about that.
I’ll have to go look up the definition of treason again, but a US Senator collaborating with the leadership of a foreign country to unseat an American president, by any means necessary seems to fit my defintion of “treason”.
Again, I ask you: What is the statute of limitations for treason? Because it sure sounds like Teddy was hoping to leave his country at the bottom of a river (figuratively) just like he left Mary Jo Kopechne at the bottom of a river (literally).

You bet Robbie I’ll think about that.
Really really upsets me. It may have been a couple of decades ago but people don’t shed their stripes that easily.
We go to work, collect our paycheck, play with our kids, watch the football game, and that’s what most of us care about or have time to paty attention to.
But, I will not allow this country to be sold out…In my mind Soros is the modern day person we need to be damn careful about..
There is no statute of limitations for treason.
The most insightful comentary I’ve seen on this latest Kennedy disgrace is from Dr. Pat Santy, former NASA flight surgeon and current psychiatrist:
“What interests me is the transformation of the Democratic Party into a tool that every major enemy of this country–from the North Vietnamese, to the Soviets, to the Syrians all the way up to the present day– has been able to use to advance their objectives at the expense of America. As Feldman notes, this does indeed give new meaning to the term ‘opposition party’. “
Why, of all the damn dopey Kennedys, is HE STILL ALIVE? DAMNIT!
Sounds like this story or this one.
But treason? If your definition is really collaborating with the leadership of a foreign country to unseat an American politician then I suppose we should begin the trials for President Bush regarding the rescheduled sentencing/execution of Saddam Hussein for 2 days before the American elections.
