The US Army’s newest Soldier

PFC Justin EarehartI just received the following note from my sister in Houston:

Here are a few pictures of Justin from his graduation from basic training and AIT. Justin graduated with honors and was in the top 2% of his class. He lost about 55 lbs and looks great. He will be stationed in Ft. Carson in Colorado Springs for the next three years.

My nephew Justin, 18, has always wanted to be a Soldier. He was in junior ROTC throughout high school, and joined the Army through their delayed entry program when he was 16-years old. His MOS is 21B (Combat Engineer):

Having a combination of combat ability and building skills is necessary when it comes to tackling rough terrain in combat situations. Combat Engineers primarily supervise, serve or assist as a member of a team. They provide much-needed combat engineering, such as building roads, constructing bridges or helping our forces to move across foreign land.

Some of your duties as a Combat Engineer may include:

  • Constructing trails, roads and field fortifications such as shelters, bunkers and gun emplacements
  • Assembling floating or prefabricated bridges
  • Operating various light or heavy engineer vehicles
  • Placing and detonating explosives
  • Loading, unloading and moving supplies and equipment using planes, helicopters, trucks and amphibious vehicles
  • Operating or serving as a crewmember on a combat engineer vehicle, armored vehicle launch bridge or an armored combat earthmover
  • Preparing and installing firing systems for demolition and explosives
  • Locating mines by visual means or by using a mine detector

I’m extremely proud of my nephew. He is the first member of this generation in our family to join the military, but continues a very long and very proud tradition of military service in our family.

  1. God Bless this young man for serving his country. He will be in my prayers as are all the others.

  2. That’s what my husband was and he learned his lifelong trade..a Registered Land Surveyor.

  3. Let’s hope his obvious skills can be put to good use throughout the world and he isn’t sent out to the Middle East to keep the numbers up

  4. That is awesome. God bless this fine solider!
