The Atlantic Online’s panel of historians is preparing an issue that lists their 100 most influential Americans of all time.
The Atlantic is asking readers to select who they think is the most influential American of all time (from a list of 25 great Americans). In early voting, President Ronald Reagan is leading the polls with 30.3% of the vote (the next two closest are Presidents Washington and Lincoln, with 12.1% and 12.0% respectively).
(I voted for President Reagan)
Oprah Winfrey (3.3%) has more votes than Martin Luther King Jr. (2.3%), which just seems wrong to me.
The issue will be on newsstands November 21st, while the official unveiling of the Top 100 will occur online the week of November 13.

Back in 2000, they had one of these most influential person polls. Hillary was just above Joseph Mengele. I’m not a fan of hers, but that was so wrong!
Ronald Reagan?
Has to be George Washington or Abraham Lincoln dontcha think?
Or Jefferson. If you want to be wonky you could argue Hamilton from a strong national government perspective or Marshall for judicial review. Then there is the social change angle: MLK or Stanton.
It’s really not a fair survey. Most of the people who vote for Reagan haven’t heard of any of the others . . .
Oops! It was polls voting for the most admired/hated person. Hillary was just above Mengele on the most hated poll.
