The more you learn about Rep. John “Backroom Deal” Murtha (D-PA), the more obvious it becomes that he’s the most crooked politician in Congress.
Yes, he’s even more corrupt than Rep. William “$90K Frozen Bribes in the Freezer” Jefferson (D-LA) — mainly because he’s infinitenly more powerful than Rep. Jefferson could ever hope to be.

Congressman John Murtha reportedly called a Democratic bill on lobbying and ethics reform “total crap” two days before the House Majority Leader election, during a vote-bidding presentation before the Blue Dog Coalition.
“Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.) told a group of Democratic moderates on Tuesday that an ethics and lobbying reform bill being pushed by party leaders was ‘total crap,’ but said that he would work to enact the legislation because Speaker-to-be Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) supports it,” John Bresnahan reports for Roll Call.
Of course Murtha thinks it’s total crap — when you’re the dirtiest game in town, the last thing you want is someone shining a light into your dark little dealings.
It does make sense now why Nancy is plugging him to be her second in charge:
“Even though I think it’s total crap, I’ll vote for it and pass it because that’s what Nancy wants,” Murtha said, three sources at the meeting told the Capitol Hill newspaper.
Who wouldn’t want a political ally who will do whatever you tell him to do…even if he thinks it’s “total crap”? We’ll just have to start calling him John “Nancy’s Bitch” Murtha.
If Nancy is serious about “draining the swap”, she’s going to have to do much, much better than this.

You can cry foul about Hoyer’s allies leaking damaging info to the press. But think about the temperment and judgment of a guy who’ll crap all over ethics reform while ethics is the issue dragging down his leadership bid. And think of what kind of leader he’d be.
Hell, even the hardcore-Lefty Mother Jones is questioning Murtha’s ethics.

I guess what Pelosi really meant was that she would drain the “swamp” of gay Republicans like Mark Foley and replace them with Democrats who are willing to “chat” with friends of Arab sheiks willing to pay $50,000 for immigration papers.
Maybe Pelosi was misquoted. Maybe she isn’t planning to drain the swamp, just stir it around a bit. She certainly is brining some old muck to the surface.
