When discussing Katrina refugees still living in Houston more than a year after the hurricane, Kinky Friedman made the now oft-quoted remark:
“The musicians and artists have mostly moved back to New Orleans now,†he said, according to KHOU (Channel 11). “The crackheads and the thugs have decided to stay here. They want to stay here. I think they got their hustle on, and we need to get ours.â€
Of course Kinky was castigated for…well, speaking the truth.
Today’s Houston Chronicle has a nice story about Katrina (and Rita) refugees using their FEMA-provided trailers as…wait for it…meth labs.
Why is anybody surprised by this?

Some of the trailers issued to Hurricane Rita and Katrina evacuees have been used as drug labs. One Texas man trucked his to Louisiana and sold it. A few other tenants have hooked them up to vehicles and even taken their trailers to deer leases to have a place to stay while hunting.
Robbie- a little tip on wading through the media: Beware of words like ‘some‘. Unless the journalist tells me exactly how many trailers were used as meth labs I’m going to believe two- (and maybe just one, if the reporter is especially dishonest).
Just imagine the 24 year old reporter who likely wrote this story and what he had to do to make his story interesting enough to run in the Chronicle- a small number won’t cut it.
Robbie you should take that tip from Preston to heart. Nobody can twist statistics to make their point better than Mr. Statistic Preston himself.
What is surprising is that this year, there have been NO major hurricanes. This should shut up those people who think there is global warming.
