Ah, the old “I’m not sorry for what I said; I’m only sorry if you misinterpreted what I said” apology. You see, it’s not Johnny’s fault that he called the troops stupid. It’s their own damn fault for being too stupid to correctly interpret what he was talking about.
John, you can take your apology and stick it up your worthless, traitorous, unpatriotic ass. I hope you don’t take that the wrong way. But in case you did, I apologize in advance for your inability to correctly interpret what I was trying to say.
Many on the Left have chosen to believe John Kerry’s explanation that he “botched” a joke. I don’t believe him. I do believe that his gaff goes to the heart of not only his true feelings about our troops, but the true feelings of the majority of Liberals.
Tom Maguire at JustOneMinute doesn’t believe Kerry either:
I’ll grant that I did not believe that Kerry’s quip was well-considered. But given his personal history with the Winter Soldier testimony, as well as for reasons cited here under “FROM HOTLINE”, I can’t say it was clear to me that Kerry was not accidentally revealing a secret he would prefer to carry quietly in his heart, to wit, enlisting is for losers.

Now this on the other hand is funny (h/t Michelle Malkin):
The Left still doesn’t get it: The military hates them almost as much as the Left hates the military.

Yawn. If this is the best you’ve got – a bunch of fake outrage over a botched joke by a noncandidate – you are going down hard next week.
Fuck you Dan. Don’t fucking pretend to assume where my outrage comes from or how real it is.
As to what the hell you mean by “you’re going down hard next week”? If you are referring to the elections, I’m not running for anything. I’ll be just fine next week. But thanks for your faux-cern.
Mark Steyn is right on as usual. I’d love to see him take on Kerry.
The bottom line here is that this is a deeply personal matter. The aggrieved are the troops, mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers, sons and daughters of troops, veterans, anybody who wasn’t born with a silver spoon in his/her mouth, and the Commander in Chief himself. Heck, I watched John Murtha in an interview today and it was apparent that even he was totally disgusted.
The tin foil hat crowd thinks we’re faking it. You can bet your ass this is not fake outrage.
Rereading my comment, I forgot husbands and wives of troops…hell for that matter any decent human being in this United States of America.
Wow – you guys are really falling for the right-wing spin cycle this time. How embarrassing for you!
The thing is, if you just thought about it for a moment, no matter what you think of Kerry, you’d know this is a false distraction. A veteran himself, with a pretty decent education, clearly he doesn’t think the troops are stupid. OTOH, Bush’s lack of intelligence is a standard punch line, and that was clearly what he was aiming at.
It’s the right wing spin meisters and their enablers who are spreading this slander against the troops, but that’s not surprising. They’ve been exploiting the troops for years now.
Whoops!:
“During a 1972 Vietnam-era run for Congress, Kerry said he opposed a volunteer Army. He said such an army would be dominated by the underprivileged, be less accountable and more prone to what he called the “perpetuation of war crimes.” “
The military hates them almost as much as the Left hates the military.
I’d love it if you didn’t tell me who I do and do not hate.
Heh. Touché.
Please accept my apology if you misinterpreted what I meant by “the Left hates the military”.
I wouldn’t think the phrase could be misinterpreted it seems clear that you mean to say that I hate an institution that both my parents, my grandfather, cousins, and friends have gone through.
There’s only a misunderstanding if I’m not part of the left; they weren’t part of the military; or the word hate has evolved into a complement recently.
Kerry is a douche.
I hope he doesn’t represent himself in 08…
His remarks were a jab at Bush’s C average in college. Kerry’s statement is the kind of elitist, Northeastern blue-blooded snob rant at anyone who didn’t get an A+ average at an Ivy league school. That attitude represents everything that the Dems must get rid of if they want to reconquer middle-America one day. It’s very annoying!
Who cares about Bush’s average grades at college? It’s his imcompetence now (and his few good acts as President) that count, not what he did 35 yrs ago…
[...] I don’t think that his first point can be overstated enough. One of my commentors on this post recently lambasted me for saying that “The Left still doesn’t get it: The military hates them almost as much as the Left hates the military.” [...]
[...] When Kerry finally did issue his faux-pology, it was roundly rejected by Veterans and active duty troops as the insincere tripe that it was. [...]
