It’s a beautiful morning here in Texas — bright and sunny, with high temperatures expected near 90 degrees. Just wanted to let my loyal readers know that I’m back at work and life (and blogging) will continue uninterrupted and unchanged.

I didn’t go all Michael Moore (after the 2004 elections) and decide stay in bed for three days in a catatonic state.

I’m not optimistic about winning either Montana nor Virginia this morning — historically, recounts almost always reinforce the first count, and the preliminary leader almost always wins. Republicans have a slim deficit in both states as of this morning.

  1. The only glimmer of hope that I have is the manual count of absentee ballots. The majority of absentee ballots traditionally come from military people and military people traditionally vote Republican. That could make the difference in both races.

To be perfectly honest, I don’t expect the results to change in either case, just pointing out that there is one ray of sunshine.

On the upside, the Dems having control of both houses of congress will eliminate any excuses for how badly they are about to screw the pooch. If the Republicans remained in control of the Senate, Nancy (The children are in charge) Pelosi could always use the “partisan bickering” coming from the Senate as an excuse.

As it is, nothing is going to get done over the next two years except things that are very unpopular with the majority of Americans…i.e. increased taxes, increased government interference in commerce, useless and wasteful investigations and indictments against the administration etc. Nothing of any substance will be accomplished. If the Republicans learn from this and get their sh*t together, get back to the conservative principles that got them into power to begin with, there could easily be a sea change in 2008 which may even give the Republicans stronger majorities than they had before.

The only drawback is that there are a lot of “if”s involved. We can only wait and see and hope that the dems don’t completely destroy the economy, lose the war on terror and nanny us into a flock of sheep by 2008.

  2. you have it right. the magic word is “if”. i dont know if the republicans will be able to learn from this one. It seems that they wont be able to keep their **** in their pants. better watch out for the congressional pages. poor kids.

Thanks for setting the bar so low Sailorcurt- it will help in 2008- I’m more worried about being blamed for the few options we have in Iraq. In any case, if the past century is any indication the economy will do just fine under Democratic stewardship and I’m sure you’ll manage to avoid being ovinified in just two years.
