One, by not sending them into a war unless it is absolutely essential. And two, when they are sent, regardless of the reason, by staying out of their way and letting them do the job they were sent to do. The military is not a police force. They are military. Their job is to kill the enemy, as many as possible, and to destroy their infrastructure, regardless of how many civilians are killed in the process. As unfortunate as that fact is, it is a fact nevertheless. Until this is realized the United States will lose every god damn war it fights in from here on out. And ironically, more people will be killed in the long run, on both sides, and at greater expense. Anybody that “supports” the troops in reality will do that in two ways.

This diminishes the service of all who serve by implying that nobody who has any better options would join the military. I find that insulting too.
