Saddam Sentenced to Hang

I got home a few hours ago from a long weekend of motorcycling and just flipped on the computer for the first time this weekend. And the big story of the day is that Saddam Hussein has been sentenced to death by hanging.

An already great weekend just got better.

If they handed out sticks at Saddam’s hanging, I’d take a few whacks at the despotic pinanta. That line would probably be pretty damn long though, and there are far too many others who deserve a whack at Saddam more than I do.

John at PowerLine is skeptical as to whether or not Saddam will actually ever swing from the end of a knot:

Saddam should have been shot years ago. A commission of inquiry, not a court, should have been established to interview witnesses and make an official record off Saddam’s reign. Keeping Saddam alive, more or less forever, contributes to keeping the Sunni insurgency alive, more or less forever. At this point, dispensing with Saddam is far more important than treating the Iraqis to “numerous” additional prosecutions.

  2. Good riddance to the guy- though the timing of the sentencing is not the most inspiring evidence for an independent government of Iraq.

  3. This makes you wonder why this decision was given out right before our elections. The Iraqi tribunal is not even finished with writing its formal decision. Seems like Republican propoganda to me.
