Which is Ok, because I hate her and have long ago refused to purhase or watch any of her work (or that of her equally unhinged and untalented husband, Chris Martin of Coldplay).

What does Paltrow hate most about America this time? Captialism. So she is as dumb as she looks, as Michell Malkin sums up quite nicely:

It’s a useful reminder of what a shallow ingrate the average Hollywood expatriate is. Without all that filthy American money, Gwynnie would still be stuck here in the States known as that miserable blonde girl with a New York mansion who used to be engaged to Brad Pitt–instead of that smug blonde girl with a London mansion married to a moonbat who makes a living trashing the capitalistic society that puts food in their children’s mouths.

Heh.

She prefers London society, and that’s enough to make you hate her? Personally, I disagree with most of what she says in her interview, but I’m able to do so without being moved to hatred. The right wing is so full of hate, it’s sad.

Yeah Dan. The left wing knows nothing of hatred. Leftist tool.

This is so dumb. She did not say she ‘hates capitalism’.
She essentially said she hates boors:

“I love the English lifestyle, it’s not as capitalistic as America. People don’t talk about work and money, they talk about interesting things at dinner,”

Whether she is right or not is up for debate but do you really have a problem with people ‘talking about interesting things at dinner’?
If you lived in Hollywood for a few years I imagine you probably would sit through a lot of boring-ass dinner parties.

The character-assassination perpetuated by Malkin and her followers against anyone perceived to be a ‘liberal’ is somewhat psychotic.

Keith Ellison Disrepects American Traditions

How far do you think it is permissible for the government to accommodate specific religious observances in a liberal state and does that than go for every religious group that will in the future gain power.

I remember when Fishstick was bashing SUVs while driving one in both England and lower Manhattan.

Hey Rightwing Guy.

I hate to break it to you but the people you get your news from lie to you (along with the rest of America):

The swearing-in ceremony for the House of Representatives never includes a religious book.

Oh well- next fake controversy, please.

Preston - so are you saying he never said he was going to take his oath on the Quran or is he going to take an oath on the Ouran even though he is not required to do so, (and according to your reference nobody has ever taken their oath on a religion book) and if the latter, why is he choosing to swear on the Quran? I’ll wait for the answer before further comment.

Of course talk about work and money bore Fishstick. Both her parents are millionaires and work has always been optional for her. She has never in her life had to worry about money for food or rent.

The British are much more intelligent and civilized than the Americans,” the 34-year-old added.

What a maroon!

Dianne- I don’t know what Ellison said. I wouldn’t be surprised if he thought he might have to swear on a religious book.

Preston, well I think the answer to my question would be very telling if you know what I mean. I would take severe exception to someone swearing on the Quaran if it’s not required to swear on any religous book. Where and how did this whole issue get started? I realize you may not have the answer, but really now…

It got started by a right wing radio host. Unsurprisingly.

“I love the English lifestyle, it’s not as capitalistic as America. People don’t talk about work and money, they talk about interesting things at dinner,”

Yes, Europeans love talking about how stupid Americans are for working so hard just to have so much money. I’ve been at very ritzy dinners in the UK and I’ve had cheap lunches with hillbillies here in the states. Sometimes you can learn the dangest things from hard-working Americans and find conversation with so-called intellectuals rather trite and derivative.

I had a cousin in France who saw no contradiction in being Communist and also living in his father’s palatial estate. The left talks about being concerned with the poor but it is the American right that has been shown to be the most generous of all people who have ever existed anywhere.

Americans do; the British talk.

Ms. Paltrow says she never made the remarks attributed to her. She says the interview was in Spanish. She was discussing the differences between American and European culture, and something was lost in the translation. She is proud to be an American.

I’ve been quoted a few times by newspapers for minor things, and read articles about events about which I was a direct participant. I can’t remember a single case where what I said or what happened was really accurately conveyed, and everything was said in English.

I’m going to give her the benefit of the doubt. She’s not another Dixie chick.

Considering she is a raving moonbat who mistakenly thinks she has the neurons to preach to Americans about environmental issues, I won’t give her the benefit of the doubt. Let her stay in europe. Her movies suck.

The current article contains quotes she made previously in English:

In January 2006, the actress said: “I love the English way, which is not as capitalistic as it is in America. People don’t talk about work and money - they talk about interesting things at dinner parties.”

Then in February this year, Gwyneth - who has two children, daughter Apple, two, and seven-month-old son Moses - said she favours English people over Americans.

She was quoted as saying: “Brits are far more intelligent and civilised than Americans. I love the fact that you can hail a taxi and just pick up your pram and put in the back of the cab without having to collapse it.”

Wow, she doesn’t have to collapse her pram, therefore Brits are more intelligent and civilised. How superficial can you get, Fishstick? lol!

WTF is a pram? I’m picturing one of those blow-up yard decorations, favored by Christmas… uh, folk.

Can someone please enlighten my dumb@ss??

A ‘pram’ is a perambulator, which we in the U.S. would call a ’stroller’.

Years and years ago I took a picture in England of a sign in a park that said ‘Perambulators Prohibited by Ordinance’, which really tickled me for some reason.

Having lived in England for 3 years, and even owned a house there, I can sort of see what Gwyneth was saying, although I would not have used the word ‘civilized’ to describe the concept.

The U.K. in general, and England in particular are a lot more regimented than the U.S. Their cops and judges have far, far, more power than those in the U.S. The concept of knowing your place, and sticking to your class are still very strong there.

The Brits will probably all have GPS trackers in their cars in just a few years, to supplement the license plate tracking cameras they already have. And being Brits, not many of them will disable the trackers or cover the plates with anti-camera clear plastic.

The taxis there really are terrrfic. Unlike America, its extremely hard to become a taxi driver in England. Their goverment requires the drivers to memorize every street and alley in their town. It requires years of study to be a taxi driver. It’s very highly regulated.

Everything you want to do is like that in England. Everything is regulated, you practically need permission of a committe to cross the street.

It sucks to be on the bottom of British society, because it is so hard to move up a level compared with the U.S. Heck, they even give ‘certifications’ in Country and Western Dancing!

The whole country is more or less set up to nanny the poor and middle class enough to keep them in their place, while treating rich people like royality.

So I don’t think Gwyneth prefers England because she hates America, its just that England is a much better place to be rich than the U.S.

Interesting post, Jim. However, it appears that your view on upward mobility has it’s detractors:

Even so, the US has the worst record for social mobility. As the authors point out, although the notion that the US is “the land of opportunity” still persists, such a belief is misplaced.

Preston, I do believe nearly everyone in this country can achieve a respectable status if they can read and write well and have ambition. You don’t have to be a rocket scientist. You don’t even need a college degree. You need to be able to communicate well and you need to want to succeed. I don’t know too many people who haven’t succeeded if they have those ingredients. Of course, that takes dedicated parents and educators as well as self respect. The achievement may not be a white collar job. It may, however, be a respectable blue collar job that provides for a family and happiness.

Of course, there are exceptions such as disabilities, but in the grand scheme, America is still a land of opportunity for nearly everyone if they choose it.

Dianne-
I don’t think the writers dispute that- they simply say that other countries do better. Furthermore, I think the writers were looking at actual results not hypothetical potential.

I’m sure this isn’t the final word in comparitive upward mobility- I don’t suppose there is a definitive way to judge it but the study finds the countries ranked thusly from least to most mobile: (with the correlation of parental income to adult income listed)

US .289
Britain .271
West Germany .171
Finland .147
Canada .143
Sweden .143
Denmark .143
Norway .139

I find it hard to believe that an indivual would be misquoted as many times as she claims to have been. All you need to do is google “Gwyneth Paltrow Hates America” and you will find numerous quotes of her saying negative things about america over the years.

Gwyneth, we get it! You hate americans….now go away.

Thanks, Jim… and interesting post.

What a moron gweyneth is. As if the English didn’t care about money lol…actually, any stereotyping is shallow and idiotic. Obviously, gwenyth has never conversed with many Americans and/or British people. Besides, she often boasts about her dinners with “Madonna and Stella”..and she’s seen dining with Beyonce and whatnot…I bet those dinners of theirs are really enlightening lol..moron

Got something you want to say?
