President Gerald FordSad news today:

RANCHO MIRAGE, California (CNN) — Former President Gerald Ford, who became president in 1974 after the resignation of Richard Nixon, died Tuesday at age 93.

Ford, the oldest surviving former U.S. president, died peacefully at 6:45 p.m. PT (9:45 p.m. ET) Tuesday at his home in Rancho Mirage, California, according to a statement from his office. The cause of death was not given.

I was 6 years old when Ford became President. Ford is the first President that I remember as a child (I don’t really remember Nixon being the President before Ford). Ford was the only unelected president in America’s history — I remember our teacher emphasising that fact.

OTHERS:

    • Rick Moran at Right Wing Nut House recounts meeting President Ford, just the two of them, alone in a hall way, and remembers him as a “good and decent man”.
    • The Gun Toting Liberal remembers “Jerry” as an “extraordinary patriot”.
    • Ann Althouse — “What I liked was the fact that he hadn’t presumed to seek the presidency. I have always instinctively resented anyone who thinks he should be President, and that has the overwhelming tendency to include everyone who ever runs.”
    • Wonkette, being…well, the irritating and sour bitch that she is…can’t help but write a less-than-gracious post on President Ford.

    Wonkette is a man.

The original writer, Ana Marie Cox, has moved on to cushy gigs bashing blogs at the behest of mainstream journalism.

Ah…hadn’t kept up with the travels of ms. cox. My opinion of her still stands, but the current criticism is directed at whomever wrote the post I linked to.

Really..you mean the foul mouthed drunk I saw on IMUS has moved on to bigger and better things?

Yup- Wonkette, queen of the superficial, has found welcoming arms over at our country’s finest institutions of journalism.

    Surprise surprise.

    Wonkette is a man.

That’s debatable. Alex Pareene is on the right. The asian guy is David Lat, who left after only 5 months.
