What Do the Kosites Think About the Death of President Gerald Ford?

Liz Mair at GOP Progress has taken the pulse of the Kosites on the death of President Gerald Ford. And it’s not pretty. In fact, it can be summed up in two words: Fuck Ford.

this death affects my life not one whit. his was only one of thousands of other human deaths today. in my priorities of the day, respecting it ranks far below restocking the tp and telling you to fuck off, you sanctimonious ‘celebrity death’ nazi.

Of course, I don’t know why this would surprise anybody — after all, the leader of the Kosites — Markos “Kos” Moulitsas Zúniga — had this to say about three Haliburton contractors (US citizens) who were killed, burned, and hung from a bridge by Islamists in Iraq:

That said, I feel nothing over the death of merceneries. They aren’t in Iraq because of orders, or because they are there trying to help the people make Iraq a better place. They are there to wage war for profit. Screw them.

Of course, they also take their cues from their elected leadership, who would rather hike the Incan Trail to Machu Pichuu than attend the state funeral of a former President — in effect giving the Ford family the finger.

If there is a bigger or more vile group of degenerates in this country than the Kosites, I’m not aware of them (with the possible exception of the Lunatics at the Democratic Underground — but I suspect that there is a lot of cross-over between the two sites).

I can’t make it to the funeral either- I hope the Ford family doesn’t think I’m giving them the finger.

Incidentally, trolling anonymous websites to prove your point kinda has the effect of refuting your point. I could register over at Free Republic, write a post calling for the assassination of Democrats, and then come back over here to report on how bad they are on Free Republic.

W skipped out on Reagan’s funeral, and I don’t think he’ll be at Ford’s service, either. Don’t go removing the speck from the Dems eye . . .

Of course, W also wouldn’t cut short his brush-cutting vacation for the death of New Orleans, so I guess you are justified in having lower expectations for the worst president ever.

BTW, have you seen the right-wing sites bagging on Ford for his Supreme Court appointment?

President Bush didn’t skip out on President Reagan’s funeral — both Bush Presidents eulogized President Reagan at his funeral:

President Bush and his father, former President George H.W. Bush, eulogized the 40th president as a courtly, gentle, considerate man who enjoyed a good joke, adored his wife, Nancy, restored a sense of optimism to the nation, and brought the courage of his convictions to bear on the Cold War abroad and on economic reforms at home.

The death of New Orleans? Please…

This isn’t about President Bush, it’s about Sen. Harry Reid.

Why is it so hard to acknowledge that Sen. Reid skipping out on a President’s funeral is poor manners, disrespectful (to both the family and of his Leadership position in the Senate), and shows a fundamental lack of character?

There is something to be said for respecting the protocols associated with being the Senate Majority Leader.

The Daily Kos is hardly an “anonymous Website” — unless you think the most visited and discussed political blog in the World is “anonymous”…

And the registration and user privliges at Daily Kos are structured to limit trolls (waiting periods after registration for commenting, longer waiting periods to write a diary, Troll-rating of comments and posts by “trusted” users, etc.) for both comments and diaries. If you think the comment that I quoted is a troll comment, rather than the popular opinion at the Kos, then you read the site even less than I do.

The event commemorating Reagan’s death that Bush missed was the ceremony at the Capitol.

On Capitol Hill, Reagan’s casket was carried up the west front steps, mainly because Reagan was first inaugurated there and he wanted to face west, toward California. Additionally, construction work was being done on the Capitol Visitors Center on the East side.

Two teams of military body bearers carried the coffin up the steps of the Capitol, straining at the weight of the coffin and the steepness of the steps. They would do the same thing when the coffin was brought out two days later.

The casket was placed under the rotunda, where it lay in state on Abraham Lincoln’s catafalque. The Rev. Daniel Coughlin, the House of Representatives’ chaplain, gave the invocation. Eulogies were delivered by Senate President pro tempore Ted Stevens, House Speaker Dennis Hastert, and Vice President Dick Cheney.[4] Normally the service would have been presided over by the president, but Bush was hosting the G-8 Summit in Sea Island, Georgia.

I think that it was improper for President Bush to miss any part of his cermemonial duties and expectations — such as the one that Preston linked to.

I think the G-8 summit could have went on just fine without him.

This doesn’t excuse Reid’s equally poor manners.

I can’t say I get too hung up on who will be attending the funeral- I’m sure it will be well stocked with dignitaries from both parties and from around the world. I doubt his family will feel neglected.

I’m with you, Preston - I don’t really care who shows up. Ford was a decent man, and a poor president, but he deserves a crowd at his funeral. Bush and Reid ought to go, but it’s nothing to lose sleep over.

Bush is probably upset that Ford expressed such disdain for his botched war, so who can blame him?
