‘I Saw Fear, He Was Afraid’

Saddam ready to hang

The first picture and images of Saddam’s final moments are starting to appear. Which is good — the people of Iraq need to know beyond any doubt that Saddam is really dead.

And he is. From Ali Al Massedy, the videographer who filmed Saddam’s hanging (from MSNBC):

Ali says he followed Saddam up the gallows steps, escorted by two guards. He stood over the hole and filmed from close quarters as Saddam dropped through—from “me to you,” he said, crouching down to show how he shot the scene. The distance, he said, was “about one meter,” he said. “He died absolutely, he died instantly.” Ali said Saddam’s body twitched, “shaking, very shaking,” but “no blood,” he said, and “no spit.” (Ali said he was not authorized to disclose the location, and did not give other details of the room.)

Hot Air has the video (which stops just short of Saddam dangling from the end of a rope)

Not everybody is happy with the way certain MSM outlets are reporting the story:

  1. Bad week for Donald Rumsfeld with two old friends dying suddenly.
    :)

  2. Friend? It’s you who are objecting and whining about his execution.

  3. I have no objections to his execution- except that I would have rather seen him convicted for more of his crimes.

It’s my understanding though that he inconveniently committed his worst atrocities while still an ally of the United States. Therefore the deaths of the 150 must stand in for the remaining hundreds of thousands he killed.

  4. Why is it necessary to convict him of more crimes but to extend his life? He can only be executed once. Just admit that you didn’t want him executed. You’re not fooling anyone.

And he was not an ally of the US except in that the Iranians were, and still are, our enemy and Iraq and the Iranians were at war. Come on! You can think of better cheap shots at your own country than that!

  5. Why? So that justice is served.

More pragmatically, in the current political situation of Iraq I have to believe that it would have beneficial to find him guilty of not just crimes against the Shia but also against Kurds and against Sunnis.

US/ Iraq history is much more complicated than your description. In any case, yours is a meager rebuttal: Osama was also an ally due to our opposition to another power- and it has been proved to be an incredibly short sighted alliance.

So, yeah, I’m willing to criticize US foreign policy when it runs counter to our own principles- aren’t you?

  6. bagay mo lang.you are helly bloody

  7. saddam is a strong man and fuck you usa

[Editor --- Saddam sleeps with the fishes. And fuck Tunisia.]
