A couple of days ago I wrote about Danny Crawford, the 14-year old teen from Columbus, OH who was shot to death after throwing eggs at an SUV.

It spurred some debate in the comments section as to “fault” — I said that ultimately, it was Crawford’s own fault that he ended up dead. Had he not been throwing eggs at cars, he would not have been shot (this argument does not release the shooter from a more egregious fault and severe crime).

In Houston yesterday, another teen was critically injured after a night of criminal activity:

A teen was critically wounded during a crime spree in southeast Houston overnight, according to televised reports.

Police said the teen was with a group of juveniles who were stealing cars in the area.

The teen was found with a gunshot wound to the neck in a stolen vehicle off of Broadway.

He was rushed to the hospital and police believe he may be paralyzed from his injury.

I don’t know the details of the shooting (was it the owner of the stolen vehicle that shot the teen, was it a rival gang member who shot him, etc.), but it’s safe to say that if this kid wasn’t out stealing cars in the middle of the night, he wouldn’t have been shot.

  1. It could be that one of his “friends” shot him on purpose or accidently. Again, you are responsible for the company you keep.

  2. It’s so damn unfortunate to see young lives wasted… I’m truly stunned by the violent acts KIDS are committing these days. It’s like an entire generation of sociopaths.

That is what happens when you raise kids in our culture. We dont have any strict rules anymore. when a kid does something wrong, the parents say that they were too busy to notice a change. Afterall, more households have both parents working than ever before. “little charlie was always a good boy” BULLS**T. when something happens, its time to spank the little bastard and make him learn his lesson, but no, we cant do that either, cuz spanking a child is teaching the kid how to hit. i say, raise your kids with strictness and if they get out of line, spank them. sure, there was no need in shooting the kid stealing the car, but why stop at stealing a car. soon enough this kid was going to be in drugs or maybe pimping out someone’s daughter.

  4. Back in the days of the Old West, they used to hang horse thieves, on the grounds that if you stole a persons horse, you were in effect depriving the victim of a vital necessity in maintaining his livelihood.

They need to start applying the same punishment to car thieves, age be damned.

  5. Pretty simple concept, really. If you do bad things, bad things may happen to you. *shrug*

Ah, well. At least he won’t be stealing cars anymore – unless they are handicapped vans. >:)
