A Pledge Not to Support RINO Senators

Hugh Hewitt is urging conservative bloggers to take the following pledge:

If the United States Senate passes a resolution, non-binding or otherwise, that criticizes the commitment of additional troops to Iraq that General Petraeus has asked for and that the president has pledged, and if the Senate does so after the testimony of General Petraeus on January 23 that such a resolution will be an encouragement to the enemy, I will not contribute to any Republican senator who voted for the resolution. Further, if any Republican senator who votes for such a resolution is a candidate for re-election in 2008, I will not contribute to the National Republican Senatorial Committee unless the Chairman of that Committee, Senator Ensign, commits in writing that none of the funds of the NRSC will go to support the re-election of any senator supporting the non-binding resolution.

The above pledge has my full support.

Thankfully neither of my Senators (Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison and Sen. John Cornyn) has joined the parade of cowards.

The ‘non-binding resolution’ is exactly the type of political grandstanding I expect of Democrats. The RINOs who join them are showing that they’re more concerned with their own political career than the welfare of our troops and the defense of our nation. I hope every last one of them loses their next Senatorial race, and is never reelected to another office at any level.

Glenn Reynolds:

This is the sort of grassroots pressure that Democrats have been feeling for a while, but it’s new to Republicans. I think that Hugh’s right to start this drive. Opposition to the surge is wrong (see what Petraeus said) and it’s also political suicide for the Republicans.

  3. I won’t support anyone who votes for the resolution. However, I resent the word RHINO. I get called a rhino and worse because I’m not batshit crazy about banning abortion. It’s gotten old.

  4. I’m more Libertarian in a lot of my political views than I am die-hard conservative — I typically want less government involvment in our personal lives.

I’m pro-choice on most things — I don’t necessarily support abortion, but I definetly don’t support the govn’t making laws that prohibit or prevent it. It’s not that I feel strongly about supporting gay marriage per se, I just don’t support the govn’t making decisions on who can get married to who. In other words, my personal feelings towards abortion and gay marriage is one thing — the govn’t making laws that invade or infringe upon anybody else’s decision to engage in either is another. I don’t support that.

  5. I’m not going to vote or not vote for someone based on their position on abortion. I cringe when people argue that there should be no right to abortion for victims of incest/rape. A lot of bloggers are prochoice or just don’t think the gov. should get involved but don’t voice their opinion because their commenters are anti-abotion nuts. I resent that because then it allows any poster who refuses to march in lockstep to get hammered. Obviously, you are an exception. As far as gay marriage, I feel like I am being asked to comment on the Emperor’s New Clothes. I’m never going to refer to some guy as someone’s wife.
