I remember when Geena Davis starred as President Mackenzie Allen on the short-lived television series Commander in Chief, some pundits and bloggers were claiming that it was just an attempt to soften-up American citizens to the idea of a woman President (specifically a Hillary Clinton presidency).
I’m wondering (glibly) if the 6th season of 24 is softening us up for the possibility of an inexperienced black man being President of the United States — specifically, Sen. Barak Obama (D-IL).
Looking at President Wayner Palmer’s ficticious bio page, his only political experience was as Chief of Staff to his brother, President David Palmer (although I see that he was NCAA Baseball Pitcher of the Year while he was a pitcher at Stanford).
Looking at Sen. Barak Hussein Obama’s bio, he was a State Senator for a scant 6 years, and is in his first term as a US Senator.
Part of enjoying the series 24 is the ability to suspend belief (Agent Jack Bauer can get to anywhere in Los Angeles, regardless of traffic or time of day, within 4 minutes). However, maybe the fact that Wayne Palmer was able to get elected President despite being 1) Black, and 2) glaringly inexperienced might not require such a suspense of belief after all.

Actually the first person I thought of was Robert F Kennedy.
I think you might be a little oversensitive- the previous president on the show was, in fact, black- it would have been a little odd for his brother to be, say, a Catholic, Italian, former mayor of New York.
As they say, art imitates life.
I think this show is highly political and I love it.
I think it was just because he was a well liked character last year and it made sense in that his brother was also a popular character, and on the show was a popular president.
The 24 people seem to have a thing with inexperienced politicians becoming president. Logan’s major political experience had been as a mere lieutenant governor of California. His main career had been as a CEO of some nuclear power company.
Both characters in real life would be unlikely to get very far as presidential candidates, and in Logan’s case would be highly unlikely to be tapped for VP, so this aspect of the show is another that requires somewhat a suspension of disbelief.
I’m more concerned by the season opener for 24 repeating this meme that we should negotiate with terrorists. Forget it!
