No learjets were used to get participants to the awards?

I read that Leonardo De Caprio, with Al Gore by his side, proudly proclaimed that the Oscars — for the first time evah! — have gone Green.

I take it that means:

• All Oscar attendees and invitees who live in the Los Angeles area either walked or rode their bicycles to the event.
• Not a single one of them flew on a private jet to get to Los Angeles.
• All gowns and tuxedos were made from non-synthetic, all-natural fibers that were grown using completely organic methods, harvested by highly-paid (and unionized) workers, and sewn by certified “no children work here” garment shops.
• The entire theatre was updated to run on nothing but solar and/or nuclear power. They didn’t even turn the air conditioning on for the entire event.
• Michael Moore was not permitted to speak, thus unleashing more hotair into the atmosphere than all the jets used by the attending audience combined.

Since none of the above it true, I’m more than a little sick of millionaire actors who are more guilty of conspicuous consumption than anybody else on the planet (save for maybe pre-invasion Saddam Hussein in his golden palaces) preaching to me about “making sacrifices” and “cutting back”.

And then they leave the red carpet in their plug-in hybrid, drive a few blocks before transferring to their H2 Limo, and then flying off in their Citation Excel private jet to their 28,000 square foot, fully air-conditioned beach-side condos.

And if I hear about another gazillionaire living a “carbon neuteral” lifestyle because they’ve purchased “carbon credits”, I’m going to go start my Land Rover and let it just idle through two or three tanks of gas in protest of their bullshit.

If those Hollywood blowhards were honest and sincere about hosting a “green awards” ceremony, they could have just announced the winners via email. Or maybe they could have set up a chat room on Yahoo.

Or just canceled the entire charade.
