The Nutroots lets out collective sigh of dissapointment

Remember last week when Glenn Reynolds was widely lambasted by the Left for suggesting that the United States should be assassinating Iran’s radical mullahs and atomic scientists?

Now, compare that with how the nutroots have reacted to the news that Dick Cheney — the Vice President of the United States — was the target of a devastating assassination attempt from a suicide bomber, which resulted in the deaths of 19 people.

At first, they were overwhelmingly disappointed that the Vice President has survived the attack. But then their mood shifted to joyful glee that at least he’d been attacked, and now — at least — he couldn’t be made into a martyr.

And it’s not an isolated incident here and there of nutsroot bloggers and (especially) their commenters spewing death wishes on our Vice President — it’s widespread. So much so, that over at the one of the most egregious (and high-profile) blogs, the Huffington Post, they finally had to shut down comments so that they could go through and purge the record of more than 400 offensive comments.

But that’s just a slap-on-the-wrist to their commentors. As Ace notes:

The Daily Kos and Huffington Post — and Glenn Greenwald himself — cannot afford to deal too roughly with their anti-semites, racists, and assassination fantasy circle-jerkers.

Because those people aren’t “a few bad apples.” They’re their core audience, and they are, in fact, the majority of the Angry Left.

It’s pretty disgusting and telling that the nutroots opposes the assassination of our enemies’ leaders, but proudly and openly hope for the assassination of our own Vice President.

We’re no longer questioning your patriotism. We know what side you’re on. You’ve made that quite clear in the last week.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m really glad Cheyney was not killed.
My point is, that as far as assasination attempts go, a suicide bomber exploding about 1 mile from the target… is that really an assasination attempt?

The real tradgedy is the 19 that did die yesterday.

If the people claiming responsibility for the suicide attack say that the target was the VP, then — regardless of how poorly carried out the attack was — then it’s an assassination attempt.

And I agree with you as to the real tragedy that resulted from the attack.

If the left is so eager to make lemonaide from this, they could at least revel in the fact that that particular suicide bomber is one-and-done.

Maybe it was just a slow news day yesterday. The “assassination attempt” was pretty well reported in the UK, however there were more questions asked about the actual threat posed, than “what might have been if Cheney was killed”.

I agree, if it’s claimed as an attempt, then it’s an attempt (in this case at least), however it seems to have been carried out by a pretty unorganised group. The threat was nil; the story should have been at the foot of page 2!

I was looking through the Huffpo comments pdf on the MM site (Huffpo has removed the comments from their site), and it occurred to me that most of the nutroots are hypocritical cowards.

They were overjoyed that Cheney was attacked, and upset because the attack failed.

But while American ‘progressives’ talk a good game in support of AQ and the Taliban, they are too afraid to send their own sons and daughters to fight BushHitlerCo. They depend on the poor and dispossessed mercenaries in AQ and the Taliban to do the fighting for them.

If the typical Kos Kid or Huffer had any stones at all, they would join their neighbor Islamic Terror Cell and put their bodies where their mouths are. The nut roots are just a bunch of ChickenHawks.

That’s quite a strawman, Jim.

Do you doubt for a second that if it was Hillary Clinton who had been targeted that there would have been an explosion of anonymous right wing shouts of regret for the near miss? It’s just not all that interesting to find anonymous intemperate comments if that’s what you’re looking for. It really doesn’t prove much.

When the progressive netroots (bloggers and — even more so — their commenters) band together to affect political change, they’re a powerful voice speaking as one. In fact, they netroots claims that they are the Democratic party.

But when they’re gleefully wishing for the death of an American Vice President, they’re just a few “anonymous intemperate commenters”.

You can’t have it both ways.

Ok- that’s a cool double standard.

Seriously- if you have to find anonomous posts to prove your point it isn’t much of a point.

Speaking of double standards

Americans are very frustrated, and they have every right to be,” McCain said. “We’ve wasted a lot of our most precious treasure, which is American lives.”

In February, Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama described the lives of troops in Iraq as having been “wasted” but then apologized a day later for making what he called “a slip of the tongue” that he said was not meant to diminish their sacrifice.

Remember last week when Glenn Reynolds was widely lambasted by the Left for suggesting that the United States should be assassinating Iran’s radical mullahs and atomic scientists? That’s right folks, a minor right wing blog has cited this one as the Left. We are now big time. (FYI, we get <10 unique views a day.)
