In my last post about Austin blogger Amanda Marcotte being under the gun for being a foul-mouthed, anti-catholic, misandrist who was hired by the John Edwards for President campaign as their new Blogmaster, I wrote that the Edwards campaign was “weighing the fate of the two bloggers”.

Salon is reporting that the weighing is complete, and heads have rolled:

The right-wing blogosphere has gotten its scalps — John Edwards has fired the two controversial bloggers he recently hired to do liberal blogger outreach, Salon has learned.

In the true spirit of Liberalism, the blame is all heaped on the “right-wing blogosphere”, rather than on Marcotte for being batshit crazy or on the Edwards staff for not properly vetting a high-profile hire.

The good news is now that Amanda won’t be moving to North Carolina, maybe I’ll finally get to meet her at our next Austin Bloggers Meet ‘n Greet. (I don’t know if any such thing actually exists…I’m quite certain I wouldn’t be warmly greeted if there was, though, as I am one of only three known conservative bloggers in über-liberal Austin).

UPDATE — as expected, the Nutroots are flipping out.

Progressive bloggers are preening and posturing and threatening the Edwards campaigns. The general atmosphere is “if he fires her, we’ll rain down hellfire upon his cursed campaign”, and “Doesn’t he know who we are and what we’re capable of if you cross us?” Didn’t he see how we got Lieberman elected as goddamned Independent rather than a Democrat?”

But like I said, I am waiting before letting loose. This is a big opportunity for his campaign. Whether he stands up or backs down will be a turning point for his campaign online. Either way, he won’t be tied with Barack Obama in Dailykos straw polls anymore. It will be hard in one direction or the other.

You mean the same DailyKos who is something like 1-426903 when endorsing a candidate?

I’m laughing my ass off. Step back from the ledge, my lefty-blogging brethen, and try taking yourself a bit less seriously. You’re fucking bloggers for christsake. He’s a US Senator (who lives in a house bigger than all of your collective hovels).
