From the Godfather of Blogging:

Big problem, or little problem? I’m not sure, though anything that makes Obama look like an ordinary, credit-grabbing politician probably does disproportionate damage by undermining his above-politics appeal. Read the whole thing.

Glenn’s referring to this article in the LA Times that is probably worth asking Obama about.

_______

Which reminds me — Sen. Obama is going to be in Austin this Friday and I’ve secured a ticket to the event.

If there’s a Q&A session, I’ll see if I can muscle my way to the front of the line (shouldn’t be too hard to do in a crowd full of Austin hippies and granola crunchers) and ask him if he believes that Hazel Johnson deserves any credit for her role in the Altgeld asbestos story, and if so, why he didn’t give her credit in his book?

Either that, or I’ll ask about the troops “wasted” their lives comment — for which Obama said he would apologize to anyone who was offended, but for which he has never actually apologized for. I’ll tell him I’m a veteran, and that I was offended, and I’ll take my promised apology. Now, thank you.

  1. Sure, go there. But if you come home reeking of patchouli oil don’t come crying to us.

  2. Obama’s star is starting to fade.

  3. Do it. Tape it. Youtube it.

  4. You are valid in your anger about the comment made about the wasted lives. But, you should be angry, not at the messenger, but at the person responsible for the war. I know that a large segment of our country would agree. These men and women who gave their lives never should have been there for this fight. This war should not have been because it is based on misinformation and flat out lies. Soldiers follow orders and they did it with honor. That is why it feels that those courageous soldiers who died in this war have wasted their lives…wasted for a cause that we were all led to believe was a national and global cause. IT WASN’T! I served in the military, although I was not disabled while serving. I understand your need for an apology…but, get it from the current President and his cabinet! Ask him to answer for all that they have done to this nation, including our troops! I wish you well and hope that you will be whole in spirit again. And, good luck with that apology.

  5. But, you should be angry, not at the messenger, but at the person responsible for the war.

You’re right, Karla. And I am angry at the people responsible for this war.

I’m mad (althought not as much anymore) at Saddam Hussein, I’m mad at Osama Bin Laden. I’m mad at Muslim terrorists who have been attacking the US relentlessly since at least the 70′s. I’m mad at al Qaeda, I’m mad at “moderate” Muslims who have allowed their “religion” to be hijacked without so much as a hand raised to stop it.

  6. I don’t think this is even an issue. Obama was writing about his involvement in politics, not about the history of a specific community campaign. I wish people on the right would do a little more listening and a lot less nitpicking. This is exactly the kind of politics the general electorate is sick of, and Obama’s the man to change it. He’s got a positive, progressive vision of the way this country could be if we all worked to bring out our highest selves. That means giving up the tired old US vs THEM arguments that are so below the principles upon which this great country was founded.

Also, sounds more like you’re planning to go and heckle on Friday, and maybe shove some of us “hippies and granola crunchers” in the process. I think you’ll be surprised at the diversity of the crowd Senator Obama will draw, and I’d be willing to bet you won’t catch the slightest whiff of patchouli. At least, I hope not. I can’t stand the smell of the stuff. And did I mention I’ll take bacon and eggs over granola any day of the week?

Sorry if I’m screwing up your stereotypes and sweeping generalizations. See ya Friday.

  7. JC —

    I won’t be heckling. I’ll be listening.

Heckling — or more accurately, shouting down the speaker — has become a favorite pasttime of Liberals whenever a Conservative makes a public speech. They usually start off trying to shout down the speaker they disagree with. Sometimes they throw stuff at the speaker. Sometimes they physically attack them. Hell, sometimes they try to kidnap them.

Conservatives might not like what you have to say, but we won’t try to prevent you from saying it. But trying to intimidate, disrupt, and attack speakers that one disagrees with, has become nearly the exlusive domain of liberal agitators.

  8. And as far as Obama is concerned, after reading the part of his book on the Altgeld asbestos story, it sure sounds like he’s taking a lot of sole credit for something that he didn’t do on his own — and more realistically, rode the back and hard work of those who laid the foundation before him.

  9. He’s got a positive, progressive vision of the way this country could be if we all worked to bring out our highest selves.

Ooooo! Shades of Jimmy Carter. And didn’t that turn out just great!

  10. I get your point, Robbie, but I think it’s a little disingenuous to compare Ann Coulter speaking with a campaign speech by Senator Obama. There is a definite difference in the tone and intent of these two speakers, and what Ann Coulter spews into the ethers naturally comes back to, well, pie her in the face. She’s hateful, and that comes back to her, just as it does for anyone. It’s karma.

As for the attack on the minuteman guy, it’s not fair to call those people “liberals.” “Liberals” don’t physically attack people, radical extremists do. And finally, how does a holocaust denier qualify as a liberal?

I think the nature of civil discourse in general is disgraceful, and it’s disgraceful on both sides. But you don’t think Sean Hannity and Bill O’Reilly shout down the liberal “guests” on their shows? And look at some of the language on your own blog. Yes, you certainly have the right to express your opinion however you see fit, but let’s face it, bud, you’re a pretty angry dude and you say some really hateful things about people.

I’m not above reproach either, but at least I see a need to work on my anger issues before I’m even capable of “listening.”

As for the first Obama book, I haven’t read it yet, so I’ll have to hold off on any further comments.

I might also say how much I appreciate someone like you who pushes all my buttons, but really does listen to what I say. Wish there were more like you.

  11. p-k-b, Shakes. Thank you for showing how the moonbat mind will rationalize away any of their piss poor behavior.
