If elected President, Sen. Hillary Clinton says that she forsees a “remaining military as well as political mission” in Iraq, and says she would keep a reduced but significant military force there to fight Al Qaeda:
She said in the interview that there were “remaining vital national security interests in Iraq†that would require a continuing deployment of American troops.
The United States’ security would be undermined if parts of Iraq turned into a failed state “that serves as a petri dish for insurgents and Al Qaeda,†she said. “It is right in the heart of the oil region. It is directly in opposition to our interests, to the interests of regimes, to Israel’s interests.â€
Ouch.
That’s gotta sting Madam Pelosi — who has already declared herself The Most Powerful Woman in America. Evah.
It sounds like Mrs. Clinton plans on showing you who’s really running the war — something President Bush has been ineffective at doing (the need to figuratively slap Madam Speaker back in place).
This doesn’t square too well with the Everybody-out-of-Iraq-by-2008 plan that Speaker General Pelosi is pushing.
But give Sen. Clinton some credit here — she’s a master at reading polls and gauging the American pulse (well, at least her husband is). And she knows that Americans did not give the Democrats a mandate for defeat in Iraq. And the “let’s take our ball and go home” plan being proferred by every Democrat with a microphone in their face is a plan for defeat.
I think this will serve her well in upcoming debates. When questions about “How do you plan to deal with al Qaeda?” are asked, she’ll be able to say that we are still in Iraq taking the fight to al Qaeda. While Barrack and Edwards will be left with, “If we just pull out and leave them alone, maybe they’ll leave us alone”.

The Pledge of Resistance…
We believe that as people living
in the United States it is our
responsibility to resist the injustices
done by our government,
in our names
Not in our name
will you wage endless war
there can be no more deaths
no more transfusions
of blood for oil
