Colt McCoy Sighting

Met my golf buddies out at Morris Williams Municipal Golf Course today for an afternoon round of golf. It’s one of the cheapest (but still challenging) golf courses in town. Which is why we play it so often.

It was a great day for golf — 78 degrees, sunny, and just a slight-but-steady breeze.

On the 9th green, I realized that I had left my pitching wedge back on hole #7 (I knew it wasn’t at the par 3 #8, because I hit that green off the tee). I zipped back towards where I had left it when two guys in another cart approached — I asked if they had found a Calloway wedge.

Which is when I realized that the who had picked up my wedge was the University of Texas Longhorns’ young quarterback, Colt McCoy. I think it was WR Jordan Shipley driving the cart.

I know why we were at the cheapest golf course in town—I’m just not sure why Colt McCoy and Jordan Shipley were…

  1. Maybe I’m just naive but are you suggesting that their pockets are somehow deeper than the usual college students?

Is that how Texas football goes?

  2. Oh, no —- in fact, that they were at the cheapest course (which also happens to be fairly close to campus) is a good thing.

UT has a very exclusive private course in Lakeway — about 20-25 miles from campus. Coach Mack Brown is also the chairman of the board for the University of Texas Golf Club.

I think it was a good sign to see Colt out swinging the sticks, too — I don’t think the trainers would allow him to do so if his shoulder wasn’t 100% healed from last season.
