Howard Dean: Subverting American Foreign Policy

Here’s what Howard Dean said:

Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean has been meeting with world leaders to repair “the extraordinary damage” that the Bush administration has done to America’s image and to prepare the way for a new Democratic president.

“I am trying to build relationships with other governments in preparation for a Democratic takeover,” Dean told me. “I want to make clear that there is an opposition in America and that we are ready to take power and that when we do, we are going to have much better relationships with them.”

And here’s what our Federal Law says:

Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States, directly or indirectly commences or carries on any correspondence or intercourse with any foreign government or any officer or agent thereof, with intent to influence the measures or conduct of any foreign government or of any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both. This section shall not abridge the right of a citizen to apply, himself or his agent, to any foreign government or the agents thereof for redress of any injury which he may have sustained from such government or any of its agents or subjects.

Can anybody — with a straight face — explain to me how what Dean is doing doesn’t directly violate the stated law? Yeah, I didn’t think so.

But Democrats don’t have to worry about AG Gonzalez issuing a warrant for Dean’s arrest anytime soon — if he wasn’t going to put Sandy “Burglar” Berger behind bars for his seditious and felonious acts, then he’s not going to have the nads to prosecute Dean either.

Of course the best punishment will be to elect a Republican in 2008, thus leaving Dean with egg all over his face. Again.

Heh. The Purple Avenger says that  “treason is the new patriotism”.

  1. I’m conflicted. First of all, I’m pissed at the Republican party for their handling of several things. Now the Republicans have to deal with the Attorney General firings; this after the Scooter Libby mess. What they should have done is come forward right away and state their case as to why they were doing what they were doing. Those of who follow politics closely know that the Democrats are just as guilty if not more so than the Republicans when it comes to firing attorneys who were investigating the Clintons, but the rebuttal years later doesn’t hold the same weight as today’s allegations against the Republicans. It’s stupid politics by the Republicans. I just want to beat them about the face and neck!

Now, how does this relate to Dean? Well, Robbie points out that what Dean is doing is not constitutional, but Robbie is not the New York Times or the Washington Post and what he is saying may make sense to “some” of us, but so what? People in this day and age think they can do or say anything to whomever they want, as long as it’s not a Republican doing it because the Democrats make damn sure their cry of foul makes the headlines of the liberal press and the Republicans are too stupid to point out the same types of things.

Republicans are digging their own grave. I’m disgusted with them.
