So, James Cameron thinks he’s found Jesus. Not in the way that most death-row inmates eventually do, but in a much more literal way.
As an agnostic, I don’t really have much of a dog in this hunt, but Pink Lady pretty well sums up my thoughts (and does so much more humorously than I could):
The Discovery Channel will air a documentary, “The Lost Tomb of Jesus,” claiming that a crypt unearthed 27 years ago in Jerusalem contains the bones of Jesus. Or at least the residue of the bones. Producer James Cameron held a news conference to reveal two limestone boxes that he says contain the remains of not only Jesus, but also of Mary Magdalene. Cameron followed up by announcing his new project, “Titanic 2.”
The documentary will also attempt to prove that Jesus and Mary Magdalene (now Mary Magdalene of Nazareth) were married, had a son named Judah, and were all buried together in the family crypt. Why not just call this “The Da Vinci Code” starring Tom Hanks?
“I would like more information. I remain skeptical,” said renowned archaeologist Indiana Jones.
The names inscribed on the boxes are in in Aramaic, an ancient dialect of Hebrew. So really, the scholars could tell us anything since we all took either French or Spanish in high school.
“A lot of conservative, orthodox and moderate Christians are going to be upset by the recklessness of this,” said Ben Witherington, a Bible scholar at Asbury Theological Seminary. “Of course, we want to know more about Jesus, but please don’t insult our intelligence by giving us this sort of stuff. It’s going to get a lot of Christians with their knickers in a knot unnecessarily.”
My knickers feel knotty already.
The Titanic 2 reference was brilliant.

I’ve written a comprehensive rebuttal of the films claims. Please read it and decide for yourself whether or not the film claims are solid or a hoax.
You will find it at extremetheology.com
This isn’t going to change the mind of one Christian in the world.
I like Pink Ladies work.
Well Mr Rosebrough, I think your religion is safe. I expect there will be some people who might use this as an opportunity to get out of Christianity, although it’s hardly going to be a mass exodus. Just keep feeding the homeless and telling them it wasn’t you, but that Jesus did it; you’ll keep the fan base topped up alright.
I read a lot of the rebuttal (it’s very comprehensive). Whether this is Jesus’s coffin or not – the whole ‘floating off to heaven’ thing is as whack as a boat load of Virgins waiting for us or an 8 armed Elephant that doesn’t really exist but does.
Good God it makes you want to pray alright, it really does.

Just more junk science being passed off by the left.
Your liberal donated five thousand dollars to the Republican Party.
BTW- I’ll agree that Cameron is an ‘idiot’ (he did direct Titanic, after all) but to whom is he useful?
oops
I tried to ‘close tags’…
Every village requires an idiot and Mr. Cameron fills that bill. Perhaps Mr. Bush hired him to distract us from the current war. I can think of no other rational explanation for his irresponsible mishandling of historical fact and artifacts.

Heh — that’s a good point actually. Other than “himself”, Celine Dion, and Leonardo Dicaprio — perhaps nobody.
Oh, and bloggers who need an easy and obvious topic to write about.
