Can’t say I blame this guy one bit:
A southwest Houston father shot and killed a 27-year-old man Saturday after arriving home to find the man with his 13-year-old daughter, police said.
I would hope that no charges are filed against the father. And if they are, I can’t imagine a jury finding him guilty.

UPDATE — (3/13/07) — In an updated report from the Houston Chronicle:
The girl’s father returned home soon after and confronted Dove, demanding to know what he was doing in the house with his daughter. Dove then became combative and made a gesture that the girl’s father thought was threatening, police said.
Sounds like this is going to be a case of self-defense.

Unless the father was acting in selfdefense, I’m afraid he’s guilty of some kind of murder.
Jim — by the legal definition? Probably. But I also think it was justifiable and understandable, and I think many a jury would think so too.
So, in this instance, US law is not all powerful? Interesting how we pick and choose judicial process as and when it suits us.
If the father didn’t have a gun, then probably kicking seven shades of sh*t out of the dirty bast*rd would have been just punishment.
A person has the right to defend their self, their home, and their family. And they have the right to do so with deadly force.
That’s all this man did. Are you saying that you wouldn’t have done as much to protect your 13-year old daughter from being raped by a 27-year old man in your own home?
Are you saying that you wouldn’t have done as much
If I had a gun in my hand, I’m sure my natural instinct might be to kill the guy.
I think it would have been better if he didn’t have a gun though. Without one, the father might have severely battered the bloke – it would have been far more satisfactory and he wouldn’t now be faced with a court case, the whole thing being in the press (like the girl hasn’t suffered enough) and likely jail time.
One more murder statistic though… hey, who’s counting?
Not enough info to say for sure but it doesn’t look good for the dad, just based on the story.

That, of course, requires the assumption that the father was larger, stronger, faster, a better fighter and actually was capable of administering a “severe batter[ing to] the bloke” and not receiving one himself.

I acknowledge the father would have to have been tough, however he could have hired some thugs – in fact, it is very likely they would do it for free. I wouldn’t have any trouble in finding people to kick the crap out of some filthy scum, would you?
This is a fairly common occurence over here, I know of men who have been beaten up for being scum; it’s accepted semi-underground society. It’s good for the community.
