Sanjaya the worst
I caught an episode of American Idol a week or two ago. I asked my wife why the androgynous kid with the weird hair was still on the show; I thought they were down to the top 12 “good” singers at this point in the season?
That’s when I found out that there is a “movement” to get the worst singer on the show to be crowned as the winner. She said that Howard Stern is begging his listeners to vote for Sanjaya Malaker, and that a popular Web site, Vote for the Worst, might actually succeed in getting this no-talent-ass-clown voted through as the next American Idol.
If they succeed, it would be the greatest use of the mobilizing force of the internet. Ever.
Even greater than the Nutroots mobilizing to get Sen. Joe Lieberman elected as an Independent instead of a Democrat.

FWIW- it doesn’t bother me that Lieberman has lost his ability to speak for the Democratic Party.

Despite his relatively liberal domestic record I wouldn’t be surprised if he cast his lot with the Republicans except for the fact that 2008 looks bad for the GOP in the Senate and he would be thrown into the minority again.
(Not only will the GOP be defending a war that 2/3 of Americans oppose but they will be defending two times as many seats as the Democrats next year.)

Believe it or not it wasn’t my insight:
In a “wide-ranging” interview, Ensign “acknowledged that his party faces a steep, uphill climb in next year’s Senate elections when 21 Republican seats will be up for grabs, compared with 12 for the Democrats.”
Ensign “singled out five Republican seats that are in danger in Colorado, Maine, Minnesota, Oregon and New Hampshire, compared with two vulnerable Democratic incumbents in South Dakota and Louisiana and long-shot possibilities in Iowa and Montana.”
Meanwhile, the New York Times notes the challenge the Iraq war presents to Republican senators seeking re-election in 2008, including Sen. John Sununu (R-NH), Sen. Gordon Smith (R-OR) and Sen. Norm Coleman (R-MN).
