Just another reason I’m so proud and honored to be associated with the men and women of the Patriot Guard Riders organization. Part of an email I received this morning:
Our thanks goes out to the sacrifices of our veteran brothers and sisters again for their faithful service to the great Nation and to each of us personally. We enjoy our freedoms and way of life, because of them through their willingness to serve.
Mr. Mark Gillam is such a hero. He served honorably in the US Army and passed away while at the Temple Veteran Hospital just this morning.
Mr. Gillam will be interred at Central Texas Veterans Cemetery on Thursday, 3 May 2007 at 0900 hours. Thanks to Bradford-Dawson Funeral Home in Temple, we have been granted permission to honor Mr. Gillam in a manner befitting an American Hero.
Mr. Gilliam was homless and does not have any family. I’m exceptionally greatful to the men and women of the PGR who will make sure that Mr. Gillam is not buried alone and without notice.
I wish I could attend the ceremony tomorrow morning, but I won’t be able to get away from work on this short of notice. But I salute all of you who will be there, standing for those who stood for us.

thanks Robbie for the post. i have always wondered why there seems to be so many other vietnam vets on the street. i see them from time to time, standing at the corner with a sign letting everyone know that they are a vet and need help.
