A new Gallup poll shows that confidence in Congress is at an all time low:
Just 14% of Americans have a great deal or quite a lot of confidence in Congress.
This 14% Congressional confidence rating is the all-time low for this measure, which Gallup initiated in 1973. The previous low point for Congress was 18% at several points in the period of time 1991 to 1994.
Congress is now nestled at the bottom of the list of Gallup’s annual Confidence in Institutions rankings, along with HMOs. Just 15% of Americans have a great deal or quite a lot of confidence in HMOs.
The real surprise to me is that it’s that high.
Seriously, who the hell are these 14 people out of 100 who think Congress is doing a good job? They must have polled an inordinate number of unhinged fringe Lefty bloggers.
Of course that still doesn’t get you to 14%. They probably managed to poll a few illegal aliens and handful of Islamic Jihadis — both of whom are big fans of the current Congress.
So — what’s the over/under on how low they go? 4%? That sounds about right.

Incidentally, this isn’t particularly good news for the Republicans, either. But it is disastrous for those presidential hopefuls who happen to be members of Congress.
Yeah, we’re looking at you Sen. Clinton, Sen. McCain, and Sen. Obama. Of course, they could all claim it’s not their fault since they’ve all been so darned busy campaigning, it’s not like they’ve actually been doing the jobs they were voted into office to do.

Gee, at this point you would almost think that our elected class are catering exclusively to the interests of people other than American citizens or something.
We definitely need a third party or more Independents in Congress. The people are fed up! (Note to Bloomberg: Not you! Last thing we need is another rich fat cat telling us how we should live).
