If Nancy Pelosi really wanted to help Veterans out, she could start with hiring one or two of them to work on her staff — which would have helped her avoid this embarrassing gaffe:

Wrong Troop Nancy

Click to enlarge the image. Which clearly shows that the veteran Pelosi wants to give the “largest increase in veterans’ funding in history” to, is a Canadian.

Since Nancy and her idiot web masters don’t seem to be able to find a picture of American veterans, in a gesture of reaching-across-the-aisle bipartisanship, I’ll be glad to lend them this one:

Rob and Marty

The guy on the left (me) is a Veteran of the U.S. Army. And since I have a 30% service related disability, I’d appreciate that increase in funding for veterans.

The guy on the right is my little brother. In 4 years, he’ll retire from the U.S. Army after 20 years of service. I’m sure he’d be grateful for the increase in funding. The uniform he’s wearing? That’s the uniform of our country’s Army.

(Here’s a bonus pic of me in an earlier version of the U.S. Army uniform, taken about 15-years ago in Bosnia)

___________

McQ at QandO—the guys who broke the story—have updated the story to let us know that the picture has been suddenly (and without explanation or apology) been taken down from Pelosi’s site. And it only took them three hours.

What’s with your hands? Are you giving some sort of super secret signal?

Hah!

No, nothing as cool or secret about it. But the first thing anybody asks when they see that pic is about my hands.

The answer? I don’t have a clue what I was doing. Just how my hands were being held.

A little more info on the pic — this was taken at a Croat refugee camp where my unit was providing medical support to the troops guarding and administering the camp.

I remember taking special care to move my M-16 out of the picture frame, because I didn’t want to be “armed” in a picture with a bunch of kids.

Within seconds of taking this picture, a young 2LT came by and reamed me a new one for not having my weapon within an arm’s length, and for having my lid off while outdoors.

You handsome devil, you!

Back to topic, have you ever seen a time like this when one misspoken word, pic, etc. is instantly available to millions and millions of people. Careers are tanked (macaw), sexual antics are displayed for all the world to see (Hilton), and every gaffe is instantly captured (Pelosi). Sometimes I sit back and watch it all in amazement. Think of C-span. I’ve never seen such a time when hundreds of thousands, probably millions, of people know exactly what’s actually being said on the Senate and House floors. No more lying to us folks. We can read the bills ourselves or dozens of bloggers are more than willing to do it for us.

I’m utterly amazed. In the span of a few short years we have definitely entered a new era.

Got something you want to say?
