Does your Congressman oppose the bill?

Rep. Mike McCaulThe 23 Kennedy Republicansâ„¢ in the Senate have allowed the immigration bill to live on — despite opposition to the bill from 3 of every 4 American voters.

There is still hope though that the House of Representatives will kill it in the House:

Washington, Jun 26 - The House Republican Conference today by 114 to 21 passed a resolution introduced by U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-MI) that expresses opposition to the Senate immigration bill.

“Today’s vote illustrates overwhelming opposition among Republicans in the House to the Senate immigration bill and the process in which it was developed,” Hoekstra said. “The Republican Conference has always advocated for immigration reform, but the Senate bill is bad public policy that does not reflect our position.”

The text of the Hoekstra resolution is as follows: “Resolved the House GOP Conference disapproves of the Senate immigration bill.”

“We have always reserved concerns about the policies that it advocates, but until now we have remained on the sidelines,” Hoekstra said. “It is important that we publicly express our opposition to the Senate bill before consideration is complete.”

I’m thankful that this non-binding resolution passed, but I was alarmed that 400 of the 535 members of the House did not cast a vote either way.

So this morning I called the Washington D.C. office of my district’s Congressman, Rep. Michael McCaul (R-10th District of Texas) to find out if and how he voted.

I was relieved to find out that he did vote and that he voted to support the resolution to oppose the immigration bill.

I also made sure that the guy answering the phone noted that I was opposed to the immigration bill, and that I hope that my Congressman continues to oppose it.

If you’re not sure how or if your Congressman voted, or how he or she stands on the bill, I urge you to call their offices and let them know where you stand on it.

One Response to “Rep. Mike McCaul (R-TX) Opposes the Immigration Bill”

I’m gonna have to check on Dennis Moore D-Ks. I’m sure Nancy Boyda signed the letter - she’s hell on illegal immigration but not sure about Moore. I’ve written him twice and he seemed to be against amnesty…but I need to check. Watching the immigration debate…democracy is all but lost. Reid is such a weasel he won’t even allow Vitter to speak. I can barely believe my ears.
