…Into the ground

Old, feeble men

  • Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) is 72-years old and has been living off the public as a US Senator for 20 years.
  • Sen. Teddy Kennedy (D-MA) is 75-years old and has been living off the public as a US Senator for 45 years.
  • Sen. Robert Byrd (D-WV) is 89-years old and has been living off the public as a US Senator for 48 years.

It’s time for all of these men to be put to out to pasture.

This country will be a far better place once all of them are out of office. In their collective 113 years in the Senate, they have done far more damage to our country than they have done to make it better for anybody except their state loyalists.

Sadly, Sen. Robert Byrd, who’s a trembling shell of a man, has pretty much declared himself “Senator for Life” and will only be removed from his Senate seat when he’s dead.

Even then, the idiots in West Virginia are still likely to vote him to another term posthumously (just out of habit).

_______

I included a picture of President Bush intentionally. Though he’s not as old as the others (he’ll be 61 on July 6 of this year), nor has he been sucking at the public teat as long (since 1994, when he became Governor of Texas) — our country will be better when his stint leading our country has ended.

Fortunately, we have Presidential term limits to help us end bad Presidencies. Unfortunately, we have no such recourse to save the rest of the country from the idiocy of voters in states like Massachusetts (Kennedy and Kerry), West Virgina (Byrd), or South Carolina (remember Strom Thurmond?).

If ever there was a case for term limits in the Senate, it is now.

I have to agree. It seems only when a politician is threated with his/her job at an upcoming election, do they listen to the people. Goes for both sides of the aisle.

I’ve always wondered why such old people are running our country. Back when the country was founded they were much younger. The last time I asked this in a political discussion I got one answer: People live longer now.

They are old, their time is gone, and I don’t see how they can understand things today the way they might have back in their time. It’s a different world.

A part of me wishes Sen. Kennedy would waste a few more tax dollars and do something about that look of his.

Or maybe that’s what deceit actually looks like.

Yup, definitely a case of Bush Derangement Syndrome.

I’ve always wondered why such old people are running our country.

Try supporting campaign finance reform.

The notion that we should continue to reelect a “good politician” should be discarded since the essence of democracy is participation by as many citizens as possible. The abilities that are required to be a competent legislator are not rare.

Anyone who has made observations of our political process since 10th grade civics knows that governmental power no longer emanates from the people. I contend that the concentration of wealth in the US results in the concentration of economic and political power. This power is used to achieve the goals of a small minority, a minority who Gore Vidal has rightly called “The owners of the country.” True democracy and clean government can only come about when a society has seriously committed to economic fairness.

To get the Washington scoundrels out of Office and to curtail the influence of their masters will take ingenuity and dedication from every citizen; the ruling minority has had many decades to rig the political process. Short of a French style revolution, consider the following:

Legislators are unlikely to approve legislation that would limit terms of office. If such a law were to pass, the Supreme Court is likely to strike it down. Remember that this is the court that has determined that money is speech. Remarkably, it would seem, the court believes those with the most resources should have the most influence in elections and the legislative process.

Despite the enormous resources leveraged against the people by the wealthy minority, there is a remedy to the costly corruption represented by the duopoly Democrat/Republican party. My idea does not require time or resources. There are no financial contributions to be made no meetings to attend no speeches to endure. Citizens need only join the One Term and Out movement by making the pledge then spreading the word.

The One Term and Out Pledge:

“With the recognition that there are huge numbers of intelligent, talented and qualified citizens who are prepared to limit their public service to one term, I hereby pledge that I will not vote a second term for any United States Senator or United States Congressman.”

Lewis-

You know what happens when you take away the legislators who actually know something about creating laws? The lobbyists increase their power over legislation.

Got something you want to say?
