On June 25, 1996, Muslim terrorists from Hizballah Al-Hijaz (Saudi Hezbollah) detonated a fuel-truck bomb next to the Khobar Towers in Saudia Arabia.

19 U.S. Air Force servicemen were killed in the explosion.

From Wikipedia:

According to the United States, classfied evidence suggests that the government of Iran was the key sponsor of the incident, and several high ranking members of their military may have been involved. The U.S. government may have been hesitant to more aggressively pursue the offenders within the Iranian military due to the recent rise of a more reformist government and a desire to enhance relations with Iran at the time.

A U.S. federal court has found that the Khobar Towers bombing was authorized by Ali Khamenei, then leader of Iran.

Yeah, we see how well relations with that “reformist” government have worked out for us. President Clinton’s lack of a military response was and still is a disgrace.

William Perry who was the United States Secretary of Defense from February 3, 1994, to January 23, 1997, under President Bill Clinton, in an interview in June 2007, said that “he now believes al-Qaida rather than Iran was behind a 1996 truck bombing at an American military base.”

But I thought al-Qaeda hated us because we were in Iraq?

_________

From a WSJ article from the 1oth anniversary of the attacks last year:

FBI agents had never before been permitted to interview firsthand Saudis detained in the kingdom.

Unfortunately, the White House was unable or unwilling to help the FBI gain access to these critical witnesses. The only direction from the Clinton administration regarding Iran was to order the FBI to stop photographing and fingerprinting official Iranian delegations entering the U.S. because it was adversely impacting our “relationship” with Tehran. We had argued that the MOIS was using these groups to infiltrate its agents into the U.S.

Do we really want another Clinton in the White House? Can our Nation’s security really afford another Clinton in the White House?

  1. You have no understanding whatsoever about the world, do you? If you really believe that those of us on the left believe that a-Q hates us because we’re in Iraq, you would be shocked to realize that we are the ones who wanted to keep on fighting a-Q in Afghanistan. You also might be surprised to learn that it was the Clinton administration who identified the threat of a-Q, took measures to eliminate it, and warned Bush of it.

Also, don’t forget Reagan’s dirty little business with Iran.

  2. you would be shocked to realize that we are the ones who wanted to keep on fighting a-Q in Afghanistan

A couple of things about that:

First — we are still fighting al-Qaeda (and the Taliban) in Afghanistan.

Second, we’re also fighting al-Qaeda wherever we find them. As it turns out, a shit-load of them can currently be found in Iraq.

And yet the entirety of the Left is opposed to fighting al-Qaeda in Iraq.

Either you want to fight and kill al-Qaeda or you don’t. Where they are shouldn’t really matter.

  3. So, you agree that you were wrong in your understanding of what the Dems have been saying about a-Q prior to the ill-advised and ill-managed invasion of Iraq. Thank you. There may be hope for the right.
