Any kind of hate crime legislation is bullshit because it supposes that the motivation for a crime should, for some reason, have a bearing on the punishment. Why should somebody who shoots a man because he hates black people be locked up longer than somebody who shoots a man because he slept with his wife?

If you really look at the ethos of a “hate crime” argument, it hinges on the conviction that you can make beliefs, however racist or intolerable they may be, illegal.

One thing I’ll never understand is how people can be so selective in what types of censorship they oppose. For me, it’s all or nothing.

Of course, this is the case. This is how our criminal justice system works….and rightly so. If I am convicted of a murder that I spent weeks planning, the presumption is that I am a greater danger to society then your guy that walks in on and shoots the dude sleeping with his wife. They don’t make beliefs illegal. You are free to believe what you like. Hate crime laws can make your beliefs a factor in how you are sentenced if you are convicted of a crime. Again, if you are a neo-Nazi who butchers a gay man because “he is a mongrel, who is subhuman”, hate crime laws give us a mechanism to keep an eye on you in prison longer because your chances of killing again are presumably greater than the liquor store robber.

This statement by you is actually a good argument for hate crime legislation. It indicates that you would be a racially biased (or at least poor) juror because you see no difference in these 2 scenarios.

Hate crime laws aren’t censorship. I assume that you are proposing that the law may indirectly censor free speech in this Koran case. However, not revealed in the AP report is that the accused was videotaped stealing from the Muslim Student Assn the Korans he presumably flushed. In that case, flushing the Korans per se is not the crime and shouldn’t be. If that is the case, I agree that we have a big problem. Again, remember this is a badly written article concerning an arrest. The case hasn’t been abjudicated. Indeed, charges against the guy can be dropped or added as new facts emerge. It will be interesting to see how it turns out.

I support hate crime legislation. The analogy using murder is wrong in that anyone who guns down anyone and kills them execution style deserves the death penalty and no higher punishment can be imposed with or without hate crime legislation.

Which leaves one to wonder why the leftards aired all those ads with James Byrd’s daughter complaining that Bush wouldn’t sign a federal hate crime bill and invoking her father’s murder when three of her father’s murderers received the death penalty and the fourth life for testifying against the other three.

The Qur’an that was flushed down the toilet - whoever owned it - was distributed to the public. And if you open it up you can find plenty of threatening and hateful passages, many of which are aimed at another religious minority, Jews. It specifically says, in many passages, to kill unbelievers wherever they may be found, and in some instances specifically to kill Jews. It says whom to kill, why, when, where and even how to kill them!

Isn’t THAT hate speech? How can it NOT be a hate crime to disseminate a book that promotes killing people but a hate crime to desecrate that book? If I’d flushed a copy of the Mein Kampf, a similarly hateful and evil book, down my toilet, would that be a hate crime?

I think you are making an incorrect comparison between the flag of America and a religious symbol. America is just America whereas a religious symbol is universal and held dearly by peoples of many nations.

Religious symbols have a special place in peoples hearts and the law makers decided that if a person publicly disrespcts a religious symbol then they will be dealt with accordingly.

If you don’t like the Qur’an then just don’t read it but to start talking about desecrating it is taking it to another level.

You will never hear a muslim saying they want to desecrate the bible or the torah because muslims are taught to respect the holy books of other religions even though they don’t believe in it. So can you not return the same type of courtesy.

First, kindly note that Quran does not call for killing people of other religions or unbelievers unless those people attack Muslims and the Islamic state. So what is Islam?

Islam is not a philosophical theory, it is the way of life that has been placed by Allah (GOD) the creator of this universe, the creator of the humankinds and the creator of everything…Islam is a monotheistic religion that calls to believe and worship the only GOD in this universe (Allah).

Mohammad (peace be upon him) is the prophet and the last massager of Allah to the whole human beings and he is dictated by Allah , particularly in Quran, to show and teach the human beings (Arabs, Danish, Americans, Chinese…etc,) how to adopt that Islam approach (i.e. the way of life: business dealings, marriage, travelling, eating, worship Allah)… why, because people are worshipers to ALLAH involuntary (think of your eyes, your mind, body functions, the sun, the galaxy …: were those things created on their own or is it not right that the creator (Allah) created them and make them function perfectly for your own benefit. In this sense you are worshiper to that creator) and in other sense you should worship him voluntarily by following the way of life that HE placed it to you as a human being through Qurant and as suggested to his prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him). Deep inside you (you do feel that there is a creator to this universe that you should worship… don’t lie to your self).

Besides, it is not only that your body needs feeding, but also your soul needs feeding; the feeding of your soul is by worshiping and constantly remembering the only god in this universe (Allah , the merciful and compassionate)…

The result to come: those people who follow Islam rules and stick to this religion (policy) will be rewarded with Paradise after this worldly life ends. Those who disbelieve it, they will go to hell.

Ishaq 262 - “Some Muslims remained friends with the Jews, so Allah sent down a Qur’an forbidding them to take Jews as friends. From their mouths hatred has already shown itself and what they conceal is worse”

So, correct your information : Those “suras of Quran” address the enemies of Islam particularly in the early stage of establishing the Islamic state (14 centuries ago). Why is islam afraid of competing head to head with other religions? Why is islam so afraid of it’s followers questioning it?

Yes I am a Christian, and I recognize other people’s right to believe whatever they want, as long as they aren’t forcing themselves on me. I don’t care if someone believes a pile of cow manure is sacred, as long as they aren’t threatening to chop off my head or tax me, if I don’t believe the same way.

If you think that Islam and its jurisprudences were enacted by Mohammed PBUH, then you are WRONG…

Islam does not compel others to be Muslims, but in the same time others should not resist the notification of Islam to the people. It’s unfortunate for you that you are not only misinformed, but refuse to see the truth.
Ol’Moh was not a messenger of God, he was a sexual pervert, a homicidal maniac, that suffered with delusions induced by his epilepsy. That some in the 7th century might believe his epileptic induced visions is not that surprising, but that any thinking man in this century would, is just disturbing.
Jesus never said a true prophet would appear in the last days. Rather, He said false prophets would arise who would deceive, if possible, the very elect.
One Must be a Christian to be Saved! References for this are found in John 14:6; Acts 4:12, and 26:28; 1 Peter 4:16. One cannot be a Christian without verbally confessing the deity of Jesus the Christ. One cannot even pray to God, let alone have sins remitted by Him, without approaching Him through Jesus (John 14:6 and 13, 15:16; 16:23-24; Romans 5:2, and Ephesians 2:18).
The Bible declares that Jesus was the FINAL revelation of God to man. There have been no others.
Jesus told us, there would only be one more revelation of truth that would come after Him; and He was not speaking about Muhammad. John 14:17, 16:7 & 13 tell us that Jesus said a “Spirit of Truth” (not a man - a Spirit), ‘the Comforter’ would come after He Himself departed. This Comforter was to guide us “into all truth”. So there would then be no truth remaining which would be sealed or hidden. This was Jesus’ way of saying there would be only one more revelation of Truth after him. We know, that this was the Comforter who descended on the apostles gathered together on Pentecost. There have been no others.
The Muslim Qur’an (Koran) is literally dripping in evil! This demonically inspired document goes out of its way to lie about Jesus; thus negating the salvation Jesus made possible. Jesus was sinless (Surah 3:46), but Muhammad sinned and needed forgiveness (Surah 40:55: “Ask forgiveness of thy sin”; 42:5: “Ask forgiveness for those on the Earth”; 47:19: “Ask forgiveness for thy sin” ; 48:2: “that Allah may forgive thee of thy sin”).
Jesus was called “the Messiah” by Allah in the Quran. And Jesus was even born of a virgin (Surah 3:45-57)! Yet Muhammad who had 12 wives, 2 concubines, sex with captured slave girls, and participated in many attacks on innocent caravans and villages, and insisted on 20% of all the booty from these raids — is supposed to be the greatest of the prophets. History tells us that one of the major reasons the Jews in Arabia refused to believe Muhammad was a prophet at all, was because of Muhammad’s harem. No prophet of God ever had this sort of sexual appetite that Muhammad had.
Both Muslim holy books (Quran and Hadith) contain commands for Muslims to subjugate the world, militarily. Muhammad commanded Muslims to spread Islam through Offensive Jihad; or conquest of non-Muslim lands. Muslims are also commanded to take back any land that was formerly Muslim, such as Israel.
The biggest threat to Islam is without a doubt the teachings of the true “Prophet of Peace” Jesus Christ. Islamic leaders go to extraordinary means to hide the Gospel of Jesus from Muslims.
The fact that Muslims do not read and study the New Testament, the Gospel of Jesus, is yet another contradiction in Islam. Question the “dark side” - the Islamic Fear of Christianity. I agree that placing the Quran in a toilet is not a hate crime. It is offensive, but not illegal. I also agree that the the headline was misleading (but sensationalism sells papers).

I think Steve Perrett’s articulation on hate crimes was well done.

Lastly, I’ve noticed that mindset of Muslims who commit terrorism and who support terrorism have a lot in common with the vitriolic, hateful Islamophobes who are all over the blogosphere. Both see things in black and white, right and wrong, and both make absolutely no room for dialogue with those with whom they disagree.

Both frame the ideas, beliefs and actions of their perceived enemies in ways that best suit their own arguments while making no allowance for other interpretations or understanding.

It seems like these minorities within our societies are hell-bent on forcing confrontation.

Yes, I wish to add these other translations of verses from Sura Nissa

Then I remembered the statement of Prophet Solomon, ‘My Lord! During sleep Satan ties knots at the back of the head (Volume 4, Book 54, Number 491) - Allah’s Apostle said, “During your sleep, Satan knots three knots at the back of the head of each of you, and he breathes the following words at each knot, ‘The night is long, so keep on sleeping,’ If that person wakes up and celebrates the praises of Allah, then one knot is undone, and when he performs ablution the second knot is undone, and when he prays, all the knots are undone, and he gets up in the morning lively and gay, otherwise he gets up dull and gloomy.”

Dang, Ol’Moh must have been terrified of the dark, to be so fearful of what Satan was up to while he slept.

Satan passes wind and runs so he may not hear the Adhan (call to prayer) (Volume 2, Book 22, Number 313) - Allah’s Apostle said, “When the Adhan for the prayer is pronounced, then Satan takes to his heels passing wind so that he may not hear the Adhan and when the Muadh-dhin finishes, he comes back.

That’s the funniest one of all. A giant snot wad, running while farting, so he can’t hear the adhan. Everytime I hear the adhan, it makes think of this absurd quote from Ol’Moh, and I bust out laughing.

You will find after the resurrection day that Satan has deceived you in your wrong belief system. You will realize that Satan could be able to deviate your folks and made you diverge from the TRUE MONOTHEISM i.e. worship and believe in one GOD (ALLAH), which 1) corresponds to the human nature and 2) for which Islam calls and 3) for which previously Jesus Christ called. In the name of Allah the Compassionate, the Merciful

“O People of the Scripture! Do not exaggerate in your religion nor utter aught concerning Allah save the truth. The Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, was only a messenger of Allah, and His word which He conveyed unto Mary, and a spirit from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers, and say not “Three” - Cease! “They do blaspheme who say: Allah is one of three in a Trinity: for there is no god except One Allah. If they desist not from their word of blasphemy), verily a grievous penalty will befall the blasphemers among them.

Christ the son of Mary was no more than a messenger; many were the messengers that passed away before him. His mother was a woman of truth. They had both to eat their (daily) food. See how Allah doth make His signs clear to them; yet see in what ways they are deluded away from the truth!”

And to warn those who say that Allah has a son…No knowledge have they of such a thing, nor had their fathers. It is a grievous thing that issues from their mouths as a saying what they say is nothing but falsehood!
