While cheering for and smuggly gloating over the bad news?
One of the things that bothers me the most about the Left these days (and there’s plenty to chose from) is how quick they are to discredit, disparage, or deny any military successes or good news coming out of Iraq.
It’s almost a knee-jerk reaction: someone reports on how well the surge is working, and the very first reaction from the left is to call bullshit or to shoot the messenger. The normal response from people who support the troops and want to see our country win this war would be to cheer this type of news.
Instead, the Left acts like they’ve been collectively punched in the stomach at any hint of military success.
Michael Yon has been the most consistently unbiased voice reporting on military action in Iraq. And his reports have become more and more optimistic about the successes he’s starting to see as a result of the surge.
Two NY Times op-ed writers who are in Iraq see the same thing.
And now, Gen. David Petraeus is expected to give a “strongly positive report on progress on Iraq” in his report to Congress in September.
The saddest thing is that Democrats, Lefty-bloggers, and MSM pundits are already lining up to say that the General is a liar, a partisan hack, and a political pawn. They are discrediting the report before they’ve even heard it.
People who have never been to Iraq — people who are not there right now watching and chronicling the successes of our military is achieving with this surge — are saying that it’s not happening.
Why? The only answer is that they not only need us to lose the war for their own political gain — they want us to lose the war.
__________
Our only hope for some sanity from the Left after Gen. Patraeus gives his report is the 47 members of the Blue Dog caucus in the House, a group of moderate to conservative Democrats.
House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.) said that a “a strongly positive report on progress on Iraq by Army Gen. David Petraeus likely would split Democrats in the House and impede his party’s efforts to press for a timetable to end the war.”
Here’s the money quote, though, which turns my stomach with disgust for our Democratic party:
But of late there have been signs that the commander of U.S. forces might be preparing something more generally positive. Clyburn said that would be “a real big problem for us.”
Right from the asses mouth: Military success in the war in Iraq is a “real big problem for us.”
I don’t know how you can spin this as anything but what it is: the dems want us to lose. Winning is not an option (remember, that would be a “real big problem”).

OTHERS:
The Democrats have used this war for political gain from the moment it was launched. He said it himself: “it’s a problem for usâ€. Not a problem for the American people, not a problem for our troops in harms way, not a problem for the Iraqis, but a problem for the Democrats. Can I question their patriotism NOW?
Yes, you can.

Ace:
If there was some caveat to the effect of “Of course, this would be wonderful news for the country,” the Washington Post reporter seems to have forgotten to write it down.

Sorry Robbie, what’s the good news you’re talking about?
