Not Everything I Needed to Know in Life was Learned in Kindergarten

Unlike Robert Fulghum, not everything I needed to know in life was learned in Kindergarten.

Some things — like how to drive a car in Houston’s rush hour traffic, how to appreciate a glass of single malt scotch, and how to have sex — I learned later in life.

There were a lot of things I needed as a 5-year old in Kindergarten — a new glove for little league baseball, a nap every afternoon, the ability to read and write better, the ability to do basic mathematics, and Saturday morning cartoons.

One thing I didn’t need was sex education.

Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., told Planned Parenthood Tuesday that sex education for kindergarteners, as long as it is “age-appropriate,” is “the right thing to do.”

Uh. No. Teaching 5-year olds about sex is not the right thing to do. What’s next on your agenda, Mr. Obama? Teaching 5-year olds the proper way to fire up a water bong?

________

OTHERS:

The Jawa Report thinks that liberals are literally becoming cartoonish parodies of themselves:

The left, at the rate of almost several times per month now, is intent on mimicking South Park’s proverbial “theater of the absurd” in real life and real time. The episode? Season 5’s “Proper Condom Use,” in which the school board decides that condom use has to be taught to progressively younger grades to the point that the kindergarteners are learning about it.

Robert Bluey thinks Obama is pandering to Plan Parenthood.

  1. What exactly is age appropriate sex ed for kindergartern beyond telling them to ask their parents/guardian if they bring the subject up?

  2. I have decided that this guy is scary. He also supports not only partial birth abortion, but allowing an infant to die WITHOUT MEDICAL ASSISTANCE after a botched abortion and the poor baby is struggling to live. He did this while he was a senator in Illinois. Anybody who challenges the following cite can go look up his Illinois voting record … it’s all there.

His position on sex education for 5 year olds doesn’t surprise me. He will be the most far left President we have ever had if elected.

  3. Great… at a time when most kids are mastering coloring inside the lines and the alphabet, Obama wants to do wha????

Was he not hugged enough as a child?

IMO, the only ’sex education’ little children need to be exposed to is: anything your swimsuit covers is off-limits (abridged).

  4. the term ’sex education’ covers a wide spectrum~studies in some european countries have shown that where sex education begins at this young age (obviously it is not explicit) there is a far lower teenage pregnacy and abortion rate and also far fewer sexually transmitted dieases. Young adults seem to have far fewer hang ups and sexual problems than in those countries which dont begin at such a young age.
this does not happen in the uk but i think they should start for the above reasons.
so he may have a point here.

  5. I’m so pissed I can’t see straight. Our schools and kids are failing all over the place. Our schools don’t have enough money. So, tell me, now we’re going to be adding WORTHLESS instruction and spending TAXPAYER money for shit like this instead of teaching kids how to read and write?

Why not just take our kids and hand them over to the state to raise. Where is this country headed anyhow?

  6. So, Nats… what I’m hearing you say is we (in the US) should allow sex education in schools to begin at (approximately) 5 years of age so there will be:

…a far lower teenage pregnacy and abortion rate and also far fewer sexually transmitted dieases.

    And because…

Young adults seem to have far fewer hang ups and sexual problems than in those countries which dont begin at such a young age.

Can you provide a link to these studies, please?

  7. by all means here is one example entitled ‘the dutch model’ but there are lots of them~sex education begins as soon as a child starts school but as i said earlier it is a very gradual process that is embedded into the curriculum~it also seems to enable children to know and understand more about self responsibility for their own decisions~for example they are about to publish a paper on children being more likely to say NO TOsexual abusers if they are more informed~it may sound harsh but hell it seems it is helping some children to keep safer.

  8. I appreciate what you’re saying, but your link references 12-year-old pre-adolescents, not 5-year-old children.

    Big difference.

  10. Children are not going to appreciate the meaning of sex or what it is really about. For them it will be about the shock value so that they can show off and get attention from their friends. That is not going to make it important for them. It will be like a game that they think is gross. Kids are learning what words are proper to say so now they will have to add another list of words to not say to their common list of words such as poopy and butt. It would be nice to think that we can let kids be kids just a bit longer before they have to complicate their lives with adult issues. Too many of them are already dealing with illnesses and divorce. Give them a break!
