Children are not going to appreciate the meaning of sex or what it is really about. For them it will be about the shock value so that they can show off and get attention from their friends. That is not going to make it important for them. It will be like a game that they think is gross. Kids are learning what words are proper to say so now they will have to add another list of words to not say to their common list of words such as poopy and butt. It would be nice to think that we can let kids be kids just a bit longer before they have to complicate their lives with adult issues. Too many of them are already dealing with illnesses and divorce. Give them a break!

by all means here is one example entitled ‘the dutch model’ but there are lots of them~sex education begins as soon as a child starts school but as i said earlier it is a very gradual process that is embedded into the curriculum~it also seems to enable children to know and understand more about self responsibility for their own decisions~for example they are about to publish a paper on children being more likely to say NO TOsexual abusers if they are more informed~it may sound harsh but hell it seems it is helping some children to keep safer.

So, Nats… what I’m hearing you say is we (in the US) should allow sex education in schools to begin at (approximately) 5 years of age so there will be:

…a far lower teenage pregnacy and abortion rate and also far fewer sexually transmitted dieases.

And because…

Young adults seem to have far fewer hang ups and sexual problems than in those countries which dont begin at such a young age.

Can you provide a link to these studies, please?

I’m so pissed I can’t see straight. Our schools and kids are failing all over the place. Our schools don’t have enough money. So, tell me, now we’re going to be adding WORTHLESS instruction and spending TAXPAYER money for shit like this instead of teaching kids how to read and write?

Why not just take our kids and hand them over to the state to raise. Where is this country headed anyhow?

the term ’sex education’ covers a wide spectrum~studies in some european countries have shown that where sex education begins at this young age (obviously it is not explicit) there is a far lower teenage pregnacy and abortion rate and also far fewer sexually transmitted dieases. this does not happen in the uk but i think they should start for the above reasons.
so he may have a point here.

IMO, the only ’sex education’ little children need to be exposed to is: anything your swimsuit covers is off-limits (abridged).
