Alaska’s GOP Congressional representation is an embarrassment to our party and an affront to our Democracy. The latest:
- Sen. Ted Stevens, who has been under investigation by the FBI for illegal gratuity, just had his house in Alaska raided by the FBI and the IRS.
- Meanwhile, Rep. Don Young is the target of another FBI investigation for bribery(being bribed, that is).
- And don’t forget about Sen. Lisa Murkowski, who (like Sen. Harry Reid [D-NV]) is involved in a pretty foul-smelling land deal.
These aren’t witch hunts. Where there’s smoke there is almost always fire.
The Culture of Corruption is not a partisan thing. There is so much rampant thievery, dishonesty, and greed on both sides of the aisle and in both houses of Congress that the only answer at this point seems to be an overhaul of the system:
Throw them all out now and lets start over with term-limited Senators and Representatives.
My suggestion? A single 6 year term. Period. When you’re done, you’re done. 6 years is plenty of time to leave your mark, and we don’t have to worry about you spending more time running for re-election the moment you are sworn in than you do actually doing the job you were voted in to do.
I suggest that we start with Alaska’s Senators and their GOP representation.
They should, in fact, do the right thing (for once) and step down now. Resign. Do not bring any further disgrace to your office, our party, and our country. Oh, and don’t forget to stop by the offices of Rep. William “Cold Cash” Jefferson (D-LA), Rep. Alan B. Mollohan (D-WV), and Rep. John “Abscam” Murtha (D-PA) on your way out of D.C. and help them pack their bags, too.

OTHERS:
I’m glad to see other conservative bloggers demanding nothing less than the resignation or impeachment of these shady GOP’ers. Unlike the “let’s let the legal system run it’s course” Liberals.
Don Surber: “Every one of them should be impeached. And then tried for their various forms of corruption.”
Michelle Malkin: “Republicans can’t tell the Dems to clean their House, if they won’t come clean about the GOP’s own dirtbags. Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens is one of the biggest and dirtiest.”

I blogged about the same topic today, with a similar slant. The unfortunate thing about corruption in politics is the people who legislate are the most corrupt. Expecting congress to do the right thing is like asking the rich to stop being rich – it ain’t gonna happen. We need to hand them their asses next election and put an end to this nonsense.
Throw them out. The quicker the better.
The only bad thing about term limits is that it frees them to ignore their constituency. If they never have to worry about re-election, why should they care what the voters think?
Term limits would exponentially increase the empty campaign promises that would never be fulfilled and decrease the accountability of our representatives to their employers.
The problem with term limits is that they use their last term to look for their next political job. These a-holes job from position to position — some that they don’t come even close to the qualifications other than that they had experience running for office. You can never get rid of these people with or without term limits.
I agree with Sailorcurt. A 6 year term limit would just leave them to do as they wished. Maybe if we had a 12 or 18 year term limit, that would work, but definetely not a 6.
