Being a bit of cartoonist myself, I find it strange that anyone would get upset by anything drawn through an innocent desire to make someone giggle.
Having said that, with the Jihads issued against Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten forced a few of its cartoonists into hididng, you have to ask yourself one question - is it really worth it?

Cartoons ’should’ be innocent expressions of satire, whatever the subject matter. Being of no religion myself, I wouldn’t be upset to see Jesus, Mohammed or Budha portrayed in a cartoon strip, however some people obviously are.
The reason, and this is obviously only my opinion, is because some people take religion pretty seriously. I remember the mass objection to when ‘Jerry Springer the Musical’ (or whatever it was called) opened up over here. Same old crap about people objecting to people portraying Jesus in a bad light. Funny thing was, many of the people picketing outside the show hadn’t even seen it!

I guess to some people, religion is the whole reason for their being, and any threat to the nucleus of their beliefs are dealt with accordingly.
From an outsiders point of view, it does seem a bit pathetic. I personally think there are far more important things to be getting on with in our 70 odd years we may be lucky to have on this planet of ours.

My response isn’t to take the opposing view of trying to force it down their throats by exercising my right to draw Allah with a prostitue on each arm, my response is to say “Fine, your upset, get over it” and continue with whatever I see fit.

Being a good catholic girl i try to keep an open mind about these things! However, the last cartoon i saw ~which was aimed at ‘the jokes on the catholic’ was of a little girl and her mother looking in a jewlery shop at the crosees and chains. The mother was asking her which one she wanted and she said the one with the little man on it! i thought that was funny~even being a catholic!
