So, Sen. Larry Craig (R-ID) is going to resign from the Senate because he was busted cruising for some man-on-man action at a public restroom.
Even though he didn’t do anything illegal (trying to pick up somebody for sex, gay or otherwise, isn’t [and shouldn't be] against the law — had he actually engaged in some public sex [he didn't], that’s one thing, but simply trying to hook up isn’t against the law) — cruising the men’s room isn’t very Senatorial.
So, it’s just as well that he’s resigning.
There’s a remarkable difference between how Republicans and Democrats handle scandal:
Remember Rep. Mark Foley (R-FL)? He resigned under pressure from fellow Republicans in 2006 after some suggestive emails to a teenage (but of legal consent age) page.
Remember Rep. William Jefferson (D-LA)? He’s still in office even though the FBI found $90K in bribe money in his freezer at home.
- Williams Jefferson: selling votes
- Larry Craig: trying to hook up with somebody
If anybody should be resigning, it’s Mr. Jefferson. OF course, the all-powerful Nutroots haven’t put enough pressure on Democratic leadership to make that happen.

Do you honestly think that the left wants Jefferson to stay in office?
but simply trying to hook up isn’t against the law
From what I’ve heard about cruising stings in the last week that is a questionable assertion. I don’t want people having sex in public places but there is something unsettling about these stings. (Of course, if people like Senator Craig hadn’t been so determined denying legitimacy to gay relationships people like himself might not have to troll restrooms.)
