Any hope that Bill Richardson (governor of New Mexico) had for winning the Democratic Presidential Primary (could he still have any hope left, or has he already purchased his Hillary in ‘08 t-shirt?) are surely out the window now that he has invoked God during a campaign stop in Iowa:
Sioux City, Ia. — God’s will is for Iowa to have the first-in-the-nation caucus, Democratic presidential candidate Bill Richardson told a crowd here today.
“Iowa, for good reason, for constitutional reasons, for reasons related to the Lord should be the first caucus and primary,†Richardson, New Mexico’s governor said at the Northwest Iowa Labor Council Picnic. “And I want you to know who was the first candidate to sign a pledge not to campaign anywhere if they got ahead of Iowa. It was Bill Richardson.â€
Several people in the crowd snickered after Richardson made the comment.
“That was a little weird,†said Sioux City resident Joe Shufro. “I don’t know what God had to do with choosing Iowa among other states. I found that a little strange.â€
The God-talks-to-me angle might actually play in places like Iowa (actually, it will play everywhere except the Northeast and West coasts) — but the nutroots (the only ones with Teh Power to get people elected) are going to turn on him faster than…well, faster than they’re currently turning on Ted “Not in my backyard” Kennedy.

Chill out!
Of course Richardson was joking, as he loves to do. However, if you want to get technical, in the same joking spirit:
According to most Old Testament commentaries, “corn” or grain was the first item to be harvested: “And it shall be as when the harvestman gathereth the corn, and reapeth the ears with his arm….” Is. 17:5; and then the olives and grapes. So, using Corn or Iowa as the first fruits, is actually a great analogy. Iowa is the first “corn” to be harvested.
Forming a “more perfect union”, and promoting the “general welfare” means an orderly nominating process, too! Thus, Iowa should remain as the preeminent caucus!
Both a biblical and constitutional scholar; with each passing moment, the Governor continues to amaze me! LOL!~!
