A school district in North Carolina has banned students from wearing or displaying the US flag on the clothing that they wear to school. Now, I might not be so surprised if this happened in Massachusetts or California — but North Carolina? The home of NASCAR?
This is what happens when politically-correct cowards are left in charge:
SAMPSON COUNTY, N.C. – On the sixth anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, students at one high school were not allowed to wear clothes with an American flag.
Under a new school rule, students at Hobbton High School are not allowed to wear items with flags, from any country, including the United States.
The new rule stems from a controversy over students wearing shirts bearing flags of other countries.
Gayle Langston said her daughter, Jessica, was told to remove her Stars and Stripes t-shirt.
“Today she wanted to wear her shirt, and I had to tell her no,†said Langston. “She didn’t like it at all because I knew it would get her in trouble. Of all days, 9/11, she could not wear her American Flag shirt.â€
The superintendent of schools in Sampson County calls the situation unfortunate, but says educators didn’t want to be forced to pick and choose which flags should be permissible.
Let me make this real easy for you edukaters: under every circumstance and at all times, the US Flag should be permissible. Shit, it should be encouraged! If you want to make stupid policies about kids wearing the flags of other countries, well — by all means — have at it.
Next thing you know, schools will try to outlaw kids playing tag on the playground…oh, wait…
_________
Yikes! Call the freakin ACLU or something. I heard they specialize in stuff like this. If they fought for a kid to wear a dress and Bong Hits For Jesus, surely they can handle the American Flag! I even heard a rumor that American and Liberty was part of their name! Besides, it would be nice to see them fight for something pro-American for a change. Let me know what kind of run around you get when you call. If they take the case, I’ll eat my hat.

It’s obviously meant to downplay potential violence. It seems stupid, but schools pass rules like this all the time to avoid trouble. A close friend of mine teaches at Dallas Can! Academy where gang colors are banned.
If you’ve got some kids who are all about rockin’ their American flag clothing, there are going to be kids who show up wearing PLO shirts or something similar, and the potential for a violent exchange is high. Distasteful as it may seem to a red-blooded patriot like yourself, the school system can’t make a value judgement on one flag or the other being “objectionable”. I mean, I guess they could, but then they’d have to get tied up in the inevitable litigation that would come. Rather, they chose to nip the problem in the bud by banning flags from ANY nation altogether. Bars in Europe frequently ban “football colors” for the same reason.
Sounds stupid, but these are high school kids we’re talking about.
