I wrote my first post (a recap of the 2004 Austin City Limits Music Festival) on this blog on Sept. 22, 2004. Three years later and I’m still at it.

Congratulations to Susan Duclos at Wake Up America who is celebrating her 1 year blogiversary today!

In the first three years I have:

  • Written 1731 posts (764 posts this year, 555 in the second year, 412 in the first year)
  • And you, my readers, wrote back12,766 times in the comments section of various posts (7047 comments this year, 3948 in the second year, 1771 in the first year)
  • I have enjoyed 661,293 unique visitors to my site (up from 151,706 in the second year, and 43,715 in the first year). It’s a very, very small number of the estimated 38-million daily blog readers — smaller still considering Glenn Reynolds averages 203,00 per day.

Wow. Half a million visitors in the last year. It’s amazing to realize that many people are reading (or at least glancing over) the stuff that I post here.

Thanks to all of you — Preston and Dianne (both of whom have been coming back and contributing significantly via the comments sections since nearly the beginning), BigSis, KristiW, Nazar, John Jarzemsky, Jon, Jaques, Adam, Anonymous, and of course all of the death penalty (pro- and anti-) and all the others — for stopping by and joining in on the conversation.

This site is so much better because of all of you.

______-

I’m not sure of what changes (if any) are in store for UrbanGrounds in our 4th year — though I’d like to start posting/hosting some guest bloggers (if you’d like to contribute something, and yes, this means those of you who disagree with me too [Preston, John J., etc], let me know and we’ll figure it out).

Who knows, I might try a few video blog posts this year too.

Maybe a slight site redesign sometime this year.

I’ll be doing a lot more BBQ blogging this year.

With the run-up to the 2008 elections, there should be a bunch of rich blogging material this year.

Congrats- and thanks for a nice offer. I’ll probably let you keep the ideological consistency you have now and keep my liberal opinions down here in the comments ghetto. :)

How time flies. It’s been a good ride and I look forward to more. Thanks and congrats, Robbie.

I like your idea of guest bloggers and I’ll pop the challenge to Preston to guest blog right now. Convince me to vote for any democrat for President in 08. You know I respect your intellect. I’d like to see it from a more pro-active point of view.

:-)

Have a cheery weekend.

That’s kind, Dianne. But like I say to Robbie, he’s probably better off if he keeps other conservatives as the main voice of the blog.

In any case, my own attempt as a blog-owner lasted all of, maybe, three posts. I think I’m better off responding to Robbie’s hard work.

I’ll have to convince you of the wisdom of Democratic policies one comment at a time. (I can start now: I know you’re sympathetic to health care reform- you can be sure that is only going to happen with a Democratic President.)

Thank you and Congratulations on your 3rd year!!!

I feel honored, thanks Robbie.

Preston…yes, you’re right about my health care position. Hillary’s not too unlike Mitt Romney’s who has already put one into place. Still need convincing..lol

Congrats and well, this blog broadened my horizon. I learned people can be pro life and pro death penalty / war at the same time and call me a hypocrite Euroweenie. (I’m from Amsterdam, The Netherlands)

I first came here, couple of months ago or so, after googling ‘Texas Death Row’. This blog gives me the opportunity to express my opinion in a ‘DP pro’ republican atmosphere. I like that.

It’s a good blog, so far I can see no comments are deleted and there is no censoring of comments. That’s what makes me keep coming back.

Hey Jacques, it’s great to have you along for the ride! The fact that you keep coming back to dialogue with people you disagree with is an admirable trait, we could use more of that.

Happy Birthday Robbie!

And yes, if you meant me in being a guest blogger, I’d be proud to do so.

Jonny
